When it came to choosing where to eat in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne I decided upon The Broad Chare. Mostly for the name, and also because the menu looked perfect. They offer a traditional pub downstairs with plenty of ales on tap. There is generous seating in the bar and snug so you can enjoy a snacks while you have a drink or two. If you are looking for a quieter place to eat then head upstairs to the dining room. Mark, David and I sat down in the bar to have a drink before our meal. Dave had a Goose Honkers Ale, I had a Dog Dancer Cider and Mark had a Heidi Weisser.

This place was the highlight of my time spent in Newcastle. I loved it so much that I went back a second time. Great beer selection, with bottles from all around the world. The staff was friendly and very engaging. An absolute must-visit for any beer lover!

I opted to eat in the downstairs bar and ordered a couple of the ‘Geordie Tapas’ – Crispy Pigs' Ears (£2.80) and Deep-fried Monkfish Cheeks (£3.50). The ears were delightfully crispy and well seasoned; the perfect pub finger food. I’d love to go back and try the entire bar snack menu, which looked right up my alley.

The food was excellent, my grouse was cooked to perfection but I have to say my starter was beautiful. The drop of one star was for not having the wine we wanted from the menu. Service was very friendly though a little shaky but I put that down to possibly being some new staff members.

I only tried a couple o bar snacks, which were canny (would like to try some of the proper food menu.. maybe on a return visit) & there is a tremendous beer yard if ya wanna sit outside

Had excellent food there, the service was great, I would have gone back if I had stayed longer in Newcastle. Sadly we were not hungry enough to try more dishes.

To say this is pub food would be giving it the most massive insult. Our meal was absolutely amazing, I am renowned for not clearing my plate, but I ate Every. Single. Mouthful! I cannot recommend this place highly enough, the pub itself has an old world charm not often found in a city pub nowadays, situated near the quay, it's just lovely! The staff were knowledgeable, courteous and really efficient and the food was really just outstanding. We will be back at the earliest opportunity!!

Great. Had bar snacks. All good but saw others and portion quite small (about small five pigs in blankets for £5.50). Some items double the price of two years ago. Has crab sandwich which was fresh - although on normal brown bread… Friend asked for hot toddy and no kettle or hot water facility - so the bartender filled from the hot tap!! But lovely location! And some great food but….

Excellent gastro pub! One of the best, albait on the more expensive sites in Newcastle. Everytime that we visit the food is absolutely incredible! This time we got the slow cooked roast and it didn't disappoint. Definitely check it out if you haven't already done so.

This place is everything I expected it to be. The service was fast and good. Portions were a good portion. We had the beef Sunday roast that was perfect with Yorkshire pudding that was crunchy on the outside but really fluffy on the inside. Everything was on a bed of veg and mashed sweet potato with roast potatoes on the side. We also had the crispy big ears that had the consistency of thinly sliced pork scratching. The mushroom on sourdough toast was really good. The mushroom was full of flavour but still had a nice bite to it while not mushy or crunchy. The scotch eggs were nice but was on the salty side for me. And lastly the onion rings were fried perfectly. Oil was well drained which is always a nice touch. We were absolutely stuffed by the time we left. Didn't even get to the desserts. I did kida wished that the roast would come with a pot of gravy for the Yorkshire pudding even if what was on the plate was just enough.

The Sunday lunch lives up to the reviews and recommendations, it was absolutely delicious! We got the old spot pork belly roast served with all the trimmings as well as a very tasty pork crackling stick. For dessert, both the chocolate pot (melt in the middle) and the sticky toffee pudding were amazing. +1 to the recommendation of Sunday lunch here!

When I knew we were coming up to Newcastle on holiday, this was the first restaurant I wanted to book. Just afterwards, their place in the Top 50 gastropubs of the UK was announced & I can see why. Downstairs is a bar for various craft ales & home-cooked bar snacks whilst the dining area is upstairs. Although we arrived 30 minutes early, our table was ready for us. The food was amazing & the portion sizes were very generous. Highlights were the cauliflower fritters with curry mayonnaise & bubble & squeak topped with eggs, swimming in home-made HP sauce. We shared 3 bar snacks as starters then had 2 mains. I also ordered a side of onion rings (huge, but fried in clean oil & fresh tasting.) We couldn't finish our mains so sadly didn't have room for a pudding (the baked meringue, rhubarb & cream / blood orange posset sounded amazing but we'll have those next time!) This pub is next to the Law Courts & very close to the Travelodge on the Quayside.
