Came to eat on a Friday lunch. It wasn't too busy. Burger and Pizzas were highly praised by our teenagers and they looked great. Burrito bowl was filling and tasty. Chicken used on the dishes wasn't great but not off putting. Sharing platter was huge and the wings on it were good. Normal prices for pub food nowadays. (Not many places are cheap anymore which is understandable) some great old features still in the pub. Dog friendly. Service was good and manageress was helpful getting us a water bowl dont think they have lots of furry customers.

Lovely pub. We’ve been travelling around and found this pub more comfortable with better food than many. Scott was also great and ensured we were happy. We definitely recommend the 1kg chicken wings and the garlic dough balls (these dishes plus a chips kept two big eaters happy).
Pints are a little more expensive than other places we’ve been but don’t let it deter you. It’s currently around 5-5.7 pound for a pint depending on the beer.
Edit: came back the next day for pizzas and to try the pizza dough balls. All were fantastic! Particularly recommend the Bombay Chicken pizza. This has become a favourite spot for us.

Had a nostalgic visit to the Old George today. Where my husband & I first met in March 1968! Thank you so much to the lady who let us go to the upstairs bar which we used to frequent in1968 & beyond. Enjoyed a few drinks & a lovely pizza!. We live in Western Australia & hope to make another visit in the future. 😊

Good combination of old (the oldest Inn in Newcastle) and young (the friendly staff at the bar). Inside it is much bigger and nicer than can be judged from the outside. We enjoyed an early drink in the cosy atmosphere and good music.
We will return soon and try some food also but we feel already confident to recommend this place. When you are in Newcastle and looking for a nice place.... Just go here.

This is a lush bar in the centre of Newcastle City. Works do moved from venue to here to continue the fun. Great selection of beers and spirits and two bars (that I found) to choose from. We didn't eat here. Super friendly bar staff. Fab upstairs but we loved the courtyard. Ladies, beware, there are traditional cobbles which do make heels a chore, but fine if you watch your step. Seats outside under really pretty hanging baskets. Thanks guys, we had a lovely time

Absolutely amazing experience from this pub. Would definitely go back. Hidden away is this special gem of a place in Newcastle. The staff are so amazing and friendly, happy to help in any way they can, giving up suggestions and options. The food was delicious and delivered in a quick manner. Their service, the atmosphere and the friendliness are what you hope in a pub but sometimes never truly get. We got that and more. Fantastic experience!!

Lunch here was quickly served and very tasty. Kelly and the team have done a fantastic job. Can not recommend more. It’s right behind High Bridge.

Edit.. Back here again and it is as wonderful as always. Any tourist looking for a great drink or a bite to, in a friendly, traditional, and warm atmosphere need look no further. Kelly and all the staff are welcoming and professional and pour a great pint. We will be back each time we visit Newcastle. ....We come to Newcastle regularly and always visit the Old George. It is a traditional pub with great beer and wonderful staff. Kelly and the team are very welcoming and fun. It is a city centre pub with a local feel. Thursdays are even better with special offers on cask ales. Well worth a visit. They also do great food at good prices.

I've been coming here for years. Rated best Guinness in Newcastle (6th in the UK)! That's quite a statement but it lives up to its mark and it's reasonably priced. Small courtyard outside is also a great addition. Will be back soon!

Room booked for leaving party. Everyone had a good time. Chips and pizza supplied. Very nice. Was a Saturday night so whole place was very busy inside and outside the pub. Great atmosphere. Barman knew what he was doing and served people quickly.

Great pub - best ‘proper’ pub in town! For the first time, last night, we had food and it was lovely and amazing value. And at the weekend - when the music is turned up and the crowd has a party atmosphere - it’s a great place to be! Have had many good nights here!

Nice looking old pub but, went with my work buddies for drinks yesterday afternoon and it was the worst tasting cocktail I ve ever had in more than 20 years . Some serious cocktail training and bar cleanliness is in need

It's very popular and was very busy as it was match day. Difficult to get served quickly. However, during the day when it is quiet and not rammed, the place is beautiful and relaxing. It's the oldest surviving pub in Newcastle and has a wonderful history. I'm not personally a fan of rammed pubs but the Old George is a truly beautiful place worth a visit on quiet days. The only reason I gave 3 stars was because it was a match day, ridiculously busy, difficult to get served or hold a conversation or get a seat and some of the clientele were very rude. Otherwise this is a lovely place and I have visited during day where you can experience the true beauty of the place

Veldig god mat. Og godt utvalg i drikkevarer. Typisk gammel og god Engelsk pub med matservering.

Great place to catch up with mates, needs a little TLC on the soft furnishings though but otherwise very good x
