First time to this hidden secret of tapas joy....food and choice excellent...attentive staff...well worth the price..had the set menu of tapas for 5 of us..loads of food and delicious. .we will be back
We arrived at 7.30 on an extremely busy Thursday and got a table for two straight away. Our food came very quickly and was delicious. The wine was lovely. There is a great atmosphere here, and the staff very efficient. This would be our first choice for tapas if visiting Newcadtle again and would certainly recommend it to friends.
Great food, beer and wine, great atmosphere and friendly staff. El Torero is one of the best places to eat in Newcastle!
Ive been going to this tapas restaurant for years and ive never had a bad meal. The staff are fantastic and so friendly and its excellent value for money. Im my opinion this is the best tapas restaurant in town x
So much choice nice staff loved the food couldn't fault it will be back highly recommend

We eat here regularly fab food, amazing attentive staff a little bit of spain in Newcastle and very reasonable prices. Best tapas in UK
Food was delicious and I would definitely recommend it! Really surprised when the bill came. It was cheaper than expected xx
Best tapas in town the the pollo fricassee is to die for. White Rioja only £16 a bottle as well. Great service and great value for money.
Lovely food very friendly staff an all round enjoyable meal , thoroughly enjoyed by me and my family !!!
Great food and great service at a reasonable price. Staff really friendly and helpful. Have eaten there before and sure to go back again in the future.
A very amazing restaurant, very busy but worth it. Fast service, with stunning food! We had Spanish cheese and ham with was perfect, along with prawns in beer batter with calamari. Both were amazing! Would highly recommend the restaurant for lively nigh-out. (Always book a table, it's packed out)
The food was excellent and the restaurant had a good atmosphere. There was a good selection of Spanish wines. The downside was that for approximately 100 people there were only two waiters. They did an amazing job to keep up with the service but surely such a popular restaurant could afford more staff
Truly wonderful food, a great variety of meat, vegetarian and vegan. The dishes were large and cost much less than we expected. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were friendly and worked quickly. I highly recommend it!
We found this little gem where nearly everything on the menu was GF and DF.

Lovely building, fab staff, food was out of this world, needless to say, Wife stuffed her face. She didn't itch, have tummy pain or bloating, didn't get rendered to occupying the bathroom, no itchy eyes / redness or watering, no feeling sick- just a pure lush evening that I could eat pretty much most on the menu and not worry.
The staff even went out of their way to remind me of any foods that my husband ordered which she couldn't eat.
Which service.
Outstanding value too.
Top tip: order before 1700hrs and get 3 tapas dishes for £16.50 ,I think it is.
Or, register via email and receive a 20% off code to use which can't be used with any other offer.
Please check the website for exclusions, it is something like can't be used on Fri or Sat night and bank holidays.
Great meal for sharing. Amazing food and the portions are just right. We ended up with lots of plates and finished almost everything. The meatballs were fantastic, the croquettes excellent, and the beers were great, too. Highly recommended.
Set up a steep Hill this tapas restaurant probably has no parking. We ate early at 5.30 as going to a gig but there were quite a few others already there. Good choice of tapas which are substantial brought quickly- we were out by 6.40. Tasty esp the mushrooms in wine and garlic but beef stew was quite dry. Approx £38 for 6 tapas, large red wine and lager so good value. Best thing- lovely waitress!
Food is alright. Some things are better than others. I recommend the lamb stew, ham croquetas, and the ibero ham.
Meatballs are okay, tortilla is very very dry.
Competition is stiff for Spanish tapas places in Newcastle.
Staff is friendly
Excellent tapas restaurant.
First visit in several years and immediately asking why has it taken so long to return?
The menu is vast, clearly labelled for dietary requirements and good portions.
Every dish we had was delicious.
Service is friendly, the venue has retained lots of features of the Victorian building which is lovely and all these elements make a great relaxed dining experience.
Good quality food of good sized portions and at a good price.....a little rustic but part of its charm. Drink prices are good too
Drop by for an early dinner. £14.75 for 3 tapas before 5pm is definitely worth it! Good quality food and decent portion as well. Good atmosphere and friendly staff! Very happy customer :)
Loved it, authentic tapas style restaurant. Excellent service. Reasonably priced. Food was delicious and big portions, couldn't finish all of the plates!
Amazing food, very authentic and good portions. We ordered croquetas, berenjenas con miel, puntillas andaluzas and caldereta de cordero. We also had some ice cream and churros con chocolate for dessert. Best Spanish restaurant I've been abroad. Thanks also to our lovely Spanish waitress!
(Some of the pictures don't do the food justice and may not reflect the full portions)
We had a fantastic time at El Torero, For 2, 3 dishes each is more than enough. Overall, the food was really good. In particular we both really liked the meatballs and beef stew. Wasn’t a huge fan of the ham croquettes due to the texture but that’s a personal preference. The waitress was great and kept coming by to check if we wanted any more drinks/dessert.
The traditional almond cake was delicious so I’d recommend ordering it if you’re unsure. Can’t wait to visit again soon!
My friends and I were visiting Newcastle for a conference and we came across El Torero and I am so pleased we did. We all agreed that they served us the best food we had eaten in a long time, the service was wonderful and the price was much less than we imagine. I would definitely revisit this restaurant.
The food here is amazing. Working my way down the Tapas menu!
Great location. Great atmosphere. Never disappointed.
(The posters are of bullfights, a bit - well - not a good idea and probably will put people off)
Another excellent meal. We walked up on a Friday night after having been let down by Cafe Andaluz. Service was quick, polite and efficient. The food was brilliant as always. The atmosphere was a little quieter than usual as it was later in the evening but still very pleasant. For the town centre the food is incredibly good value and good quality. I don't know enough about Spanish cuisine to say if it is authentic or not but it is certainly delicious.
A really stark comparison to the much hyped Cafe Andaluz.
Overall the food here was very good, felt as though the portions were a bit on the smaller side for the price but everything tasted great. The service was okay on the most part but could have been better as it was hard to get the waitresses attention to order anything else or get the bill even though it was not busy.
Favourite tapas restaurant. So much more filling than you think. Beautiful selection of good quality food. Thoroughly enjoy it every time, washed down with a jug of sangria. Reasonably priced and great atmosphere. Lovely place for a date.
Me and my partner visited El Terero for the first time last night. We arrived at the restaurant at 5pm and were the only two in but the restaurant was pretty much full by the time we were leaving a couple of hours later.
The menu is vast and there’s plenty to satisfy all tastes. We wanted to try as much as possible, so we chose six tapas between us. We selected the tortilla, pork meatballs, ham & chicken croquettes, potatoes with chorizo and peppers, Seafood paella and the braised lamb.
The croquettes were crunchy and flavoursome on the outside with a lovely and soft texture on the inside. The tortilla was nice and thick with a very generous sized portion and the egg was not overpowering as it sometimes can be elsewhere.
The potatoes were cooked well and the chorizo seemed to be boiled as opposed to pan fried which is how I’d usually cook my chorizo but I may have to switch techniques because it was full of flavour and the peppers rounded things off nicely.
However, the stars of the show were definitely the two meaty dishes. The lamb chunks were extremely tender and must’ve been slowed cooked for a while to be that easy to eat and came with a sauce which was full of flavour from the tomatoes, white wine and paprika. My favourite dish was the pork meatballs, they crumbled nicely when cut and were extremely succulent to eat with a lovely and fresh tomato sauce which I ended up spooning onto the potatoes to make things even tastier.
We were able to finish all of the dishes but didn’t have too much room to spare, so three dishes per person would be ample for most. Although we did of course find room to share the Red Velvet Cheesecake. The layers of chocolate, cake, cheesecake and biscuit base intertwined extremely effectively and made for a fantastic end to our meal.
We were impressed with all the dishes and would highly recommend El Terero to anybody looking for a tapas restaurant.
