First time to this hidden secret of tapas joy....food and choice excellent...attentive staff...well worth the price..had the set menu of tapas for 5 of us..loads of food and delicious. .we will be back
We arrived at 7.30 on an extremely busy Thursday and got a table for two straight away. Our food came very quickly and was delicious. The wine was lovely. There is a great atmosphere here, and the staff very efficient. This would be our first choice for tapas if visiting Newcadtle again and would certainly recommend it to friends.
A very amazing restaurant, very busy but worth it. Fast service, with stunning food! We had Spanish cheese and ham with was perfect, along with prawns in beer batter with calamari. Both were amazing! Would highly recommend the restaurant for lively nigh-out. (Always book a table, it's packed out)
The food was excellent and the restaurant had a good atmosphere. There was a good selection of Spanish wines. The downside was that for approximately 100 people there were only two waiters. They did an amazing job to keep up with the service but surely such a popular restaurant could afford more staff
Food is alright. Some things are better than others. I recommend the lamb stew, ham croquetas, and the ibero ham.
Meatballs are okay, tortilla is very very dry.
Competition is stiff for Spanish tapas places in Newcastle.

Drop by for an early dinner. £14.75 for 3 tapas before 5pm is definitely worth it! Good quality food and decent portion as well. Good atmosphere and friendly staff! Very happy customer :)
Loved it, authentic tapas style restaurant. Excellent service. Reasonably priced. Food was delicious and big portions, couldn't finish all of the plates!
My friends and I were visiting Newcastle for a conference and we came across El Torero and I am so pleased we did. We all agreed that they served us the best food we had eaten in a long time, the service was wonderful and the price was much less than we imagine. I would definitely revisit this restaurant.
Amazing food, very authentic and good portions. We ordered croquetas, berenjenas con miel, puntillas andaluzas and caldereta de cordero. We also had some ice cream and churros con chocolate for dessert. Best Spanish restaurant I've been abroad. Thanks also to our lovely Spanish waitress!

Amazing food! Great with sangria and friends! One of my favourite restaurants.
Another excellent meal. We walked up on a Friday night after having been let down by Cafe Andaluz. Service was quick, polite and efficient. The food was brilliant as always. The atmosphere was a little quieter than usual as it was later in the evening but still very pleasant. For the town centre the food is incredibly good value and good quality. I don't know enough about Spanish cuisine to say if it is authentic or not but it is certainly delicious.
A really stark comparison to the much hyped Cafe Andaluz.
Visited this place with work colleagues and enjoyed the food. The lady who took the order was absolutely brilliant with the recommendations and even remember what each person had ordered very clearly.
The ambience is too dark, all of us had to turn on mobile phone flashlights to read the menu which was very awkward. Taking off 1 start from the review for this.
We had a fantastic time at El Torero, For 2, 3 dishes each is more than enough. Overall, the food was really good. In particular we both really liked the meatballs and beef stew. Wasn’t a huge fan of the ham croquettes due to the texture but that’s a personal preference. The waitress was great and kept coming by to check if we wanted any more drinks/dessert.
The traditional almond cake was delicious so I’d recommend ordering it if you’re unsure. Can’t wait to visit again soon!
Absolutely fantastic customer service from the moment I booked! We were a party of 20 celebrating a hen, setting up with decorations, staff offered to help in any way. Service was excellent, all food was correct and served hot (an absolute feat as most of the 20 ordered 2/3 dishes each!) Portion size is utterly incredible and every single person commented on how fab the food tasted. Staff were attentive and even the bar service was quick.
Definitely will return and I think a lot of the party agree it is somewhere they will definitely return too!
