Me and my partner always make sure we visit this place when coming up to visit family in Newcastle. Very friendly staff, fantastic atmosphere, great beers and more. We had a meal here not too long ago on a very busy Saturday, and still couldn’t fault the service or delicious food. I’ll make it my mission some day to have one of their sharing boards to myself.

Excellent bar with lots of beer options.
Had an enormous 15 page menu of speciality beers from all over the world.
Good balance of stouts, lights, darks and then sours and lambic fruit beers as well.
We had a pizza to eat which was delicious and felt hand made and rustic.

Wonderful pub. The staff are incredibly charming and welcoming. The public areas are comfortably furnished and cosy. The selection of ale is very good. It's a dog friendly venue. Really nice customers too. I haven't eaten here but will do so in the future. My favourite pub in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Called in here for a drink on a cold day . Lovely, comfy seating areas and nice chilled atmosphere. Delicious hot chocolate (just needed to be piping hot )
Tomas Homola
Plenty of space and a cosy atmosphere.
Great selection of beers.

This is a good place, but not very gluten friendly. The food was delicious and relatively inexpensive. Friendly staff was able to instruct us on more gluten friendly options, but this is NOT a gluten free place. Drinks and food were terrific, though.

Literally walking past and decided to call in! Lots of choice in real ale, menu looked good so we ordered. My hubby got the Bourbon Smoker Burger and fries, I got the vegan 'chicken ' gyros and fries- flippen lovely!!! 👌

Really enjoyed our lunch trip here on Monday. £10.50 for a great gyros, side & a pint of lager. One of the best vegan ranges in Newcastle, a class selection of beer & friendly staff who are knowledgeable on their craft booze. Good music too! 🤘🏼

Had our staff party last night and have to say it was above and beyond. Emily organised it and set out a table reservation for our rather large group and it was ideal. Joe and his bartenders that night were friendly, welcoming and made some amazing drinks especially the honey margarita I was told. We were quite close to the kitchens closing time and in most places this would be an issue but there were no qualms in the slightest and a couple members of the group got some meals and they looked delicious, nachos and loaded fries I had a bite of were delicious and our own chefs were impressed at the speed of service and quality. Absolutely planning to go there for our next one and will be recommending to others !

Nice, large pub in a nice location, on the Quayside in Newcastle. Lots of separate booths, seating well-spaced.
Owned by Cameron's and I was impressed with their own lager - plenty of flavour. Food likewise. The place had a great buzz about it. Will go again.

Really liked it here. Away from home with work I am often alone eating out and this place was perfect for that teatime slot. My only mild irritation was I used the app to order food. With most ordering apps you get a digital receipt for your order. This is very handy for processing expenses. I was a bit surprised that the HoS app does not do this. No receipt no payment by my company so I am out of pocket for the price of my meal. Which was excellent btw

Marvellous, with engaging and knowledgeable staff. Felt very welcome and excellent choice of cask and keg. In an ideal world the Untappd list would be up-to-date, but I liked it here and felt welcome.

Classy but simple place with an extensive range of craft ales . Had a burger with fries (which was gourmet class)and a pint of lager for £11. Themed bar based around music played 70s soul and funk which is all right by me .

Lovely pub, great selection of beer, even if I wimped out and had a gin! Great decor, friendly staff and outside seating area.

First time in Newcastle, me and my wife were looking for somewhere to eat on the quayside and we stumbled across,"Head of Steam", probably not the kind of place we would normally choose, but what the heck we were both starving.
The meal came and it was really rather good, the staff were excellent too, also I had a superb pint of IPA ,the music was Great also,so it turned out to be a really enjoyable evening, well done Head of Steam.

Love it. Great staff, GOOOD FOOD! And good times. I am a meat eater but very vegan friendly on the menu too, and they sound tasty too! 😋

Finally managed to visit this place since it was refurbished and can I get a wow???!! Great selection of drinks and the food was so much better than it should have been, this is not pub food people, this is food that should be photographed eaten and then washed down with lots of beer. Staff very helpful and not patronising like sadly so many other places, comes highly recommend by little old me x

Have changed their menu and the only gluten free vegetarian option is nachos. Main size cost £9 for a plate of corn chips (45p from Tesco, one of very few brands that are GF) with cheese and few tablespoons of salsa and guacamole. Massive rip off and disappointing considering their menu when they first opened was very coeliac friendly

Love it - from the amazingly friendly staff to the bar itself - highly recommend - another hidden gem on the quayside

There’s nothing to not like here! Great menu which was served nice and quick. Amazing selection of beers only wish I had stamina to try more. All the staff were really helpful and their knowledge of the beers on offer was second to none. I would recommend this pub to anyone in the area.

Great food, great price, great atmosphere, great service, what’s not to like! We had burgers, a pie and the Besler and would thoroughly recommend.
Andi Miller
Good selection of beers, lagers and ciders. Husband really liked his. He was allowed to try a couple of small ones which he appreciated.
Good ambience, staff friendly and both young, old and us middlies were in there.
Great place to visit when visiting Sunday market at quayside.
Laura Puntin
Always good crack! Lovely range of drinks and top notch, welcoming staff. Definitely worth a visit!

On a recent visit we were greeted warmly and very quickly sat down. Service was quick and friendly and the food was top drawer not to mention my wife enjoying a espresso martini! Good range of drinks and food and the ambience works. Love the old signage across the place and the locations amazing.
Definitely be back!

Lovely, relaxed atmosphere, great, efficient service and one of the best beer selections (on tap and bottled/canned) in the city.

Great place, great atmosphere. When we arrived we were offered to try some of the pizzas from the new specials menu which tasted fantastic.

The food was excellent and a mistake was made with our order so one of the mains arrived after we had all finished. They were very apologetic and didn't charge us for the late meal.
Jason Thompson
Proper pub in a great location. Staff are knowledgeable and very friendly, great range of beers and ales. We had a very nice meal there recently too. Two thumbs up.
