Home made mince pie and chips yummy.The chips were cooked to perfection and the pie was a good size with good quality mince inside....this cafe is super value for money and has a wide variety of dishes on the menu including cakes,milkshakes and hot tasty puddings like jam roly poly.The only small fault is that the place needs sprucing up a little,new paintwork,colour scheme etc,but apart from that its top grub

It may not necessarily be as good quality as some other places nearby in Heaton, but the quality and amount of food you get for your money is excellent and way outstrips others in the area. The breakfasts are the best value for money around I'd say.

I visited with family last week. The menu has a lot of choice. The food was very cheap, the portions were large and it all tasted good. Where else can I get a large cooked breakfast with extra toast and a large mug of tea for £2.50? The service was friendly too, and it was good to see the impressively good service given to a blind customer at the next table. We're not in Byker that often but a return to Shirley's will be looked forward to.
