Well this was an unexpectedly lovely surprise. My son and I had struggled to find somewhere open and decent and came upon this place, Staff and owners are really really nice. They make all food in-house - nothing manufactured. Their intention is that the food is made in the same way and as good as they would make at home. I will come again (and I live in London).

Fantastic place to eat in Newcastle. I had the mixed grill with a side of tarka dhal, it was delicious. The restaurant is so central, very easy to walk to, with lots of bars around. I would say give it a try.

Tip Top customer service. The 'boss' of the restaurant is little Ayla, in which we took a picture with. This is a family-run restaurant with very much authenticity in their cuisine. The family is very friendly, and the Indian cuisine here is delicious. The ambience and the interior decor is spot-on.

This was our first visit here, it’s wasn’t busy being a Monday evening so we had a good choice of seats. The staff were great, just enough eye contact without being overbearing. Our waiter really knew his menu and helped choose our starters and then helped me create my own vegetarian main from what was in the rest of the menu. Every dish was fantastic, full of flavor and aromatic fragrance. You could really tell the difference as they were making the meals with fresh ingredients. Ayla is really worth a visit for the food and the friendly staff.

🥭🥭🥭AYLA NEWCASTLE🥭🥭🥭 First time trying this resteraunt and I was NOT disappointed! Beautiful contemporary Indian food. For starters we got the Goan steamed mussels and Hara tikka kebab nice different than usual tikka chicken, mussels were absolutely gorgeous nice coconut and lemon sauce. Mains were absolutely delightful, MURGH MORiCH DHONIA very hot very flavoursome not overpowered with corriander either. MANGALOREAN GHOOST diced lamb cooked with roasted peppercorns and coconut . Lamb melted in my mouth!! These were accompanied with spicy masala chips (which aren't on the menu and aren't spicy but delicious nevertheless) really nice chips . Also opted for coconut rice which was standard . Pickle tray was delicious really nice. Service was impeccable would definitely come back. Thank you guys . 10/10 for mango lassi absolutely delicious all the food.

Great place. All of the dishes have their own unique taste and flavor. Just had a quick chat with the proprietor and he has a wonderful perspective on how to run this place.

Alongside three other colleagues we visited Ayla for the first time to sample a rare midweek curry. We kept it quite simple with a few poppadoms to begin then straight into the main event. My mixed grill was bang on the money. Maybe not the heartiest I've had but good quality meat. Naan breads are a 'healthier' saucer sized affair whilst the mixed veg rice's were really tasty. A pint of Kingfisher ensured we were fully hydrated throughout. I think if you've had a gallon of ale and need an old school curry you're best off going around the corner in all fairness. If somewhat more sophisticated food is your preference then check this place out.

Fabulous restaurant and wonderful service. I was here alone on a Friday night and they were very kind and generous to me. I love coconut and many of the dishes featured coconut, such as a terrific goat curry, the Peshwari naan, and the fabulously fragrant coconut rice. The palak paneer was also unrivalled. Thank you! A must try if you would like an upscale yet unfussy Indian meal without boisterous crowds.

I was in Newcastle for work and fancied an Indian meal, which so I checked the reviews. Ayla @ Grey St had good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. The service as soon as I walked through the door was exceptional. Very attentive but kept their distance until you needed them. I had chicken Malabar which was exquisite. Would thoroughly recommend it
