Aubergine Kitchen & Bar

Went in for a late Sunday lunch and had a great time. Good selection of drinks including local craft beer. Had the Aubergine special appetizer that was delicious, a great blend of flavours. I was impressed by the great selection of traditional Mediterranean dishes and ordered the Mousaka. It was very tasty and everything was served fresh and hot. Aubergine is one of the best Newmarket restaurants on Main street and I would recommend it to anyone. Can't wait to go back!

Waiter was nice, atmosphere was nice. However, it was absolutely dreadful and something out of Kitchen Nightmares. The positive reviews on here are probably fake... When we ordered two beer-battered fish and chips but were told that they only had one fish left. Mind you, this was a weekend, not a Tuesday night. They also didn’t have mashed potatoes for the steak which will make sense in the next paragraph. While patiently waiting for our order (slow service too), they restocked on frozen fries, fish and other goods from their basement storage. We saw bags of frozen Kirkland brand fish, etc. and a big bag of fries from Costco. We were immediately shocked that not even the fries were made in-house! Holy s*** man. If you don’t want your customers to know, be discreet about it… Given the price point of this place, I don’t want to eat the same fish and fries I have at home...That explained NOT having mashed potatoes cause they probably don’t stock on potatoes. Although the calamari and crispy shrimp were alright, the portions were miniscule. 7 pieces of crispy shrimp, a handful of calamari… The Pesto Penne were lacking in pesto and drowning in oil (see picture). Why not just call it “Penne” in the menu? I’m not even Italian and that was offensive. 17 dollars with no other elements in the dish and chicken for 6 or 7 dollars extra. Blasphemy! The final nail in the coffin was how the bill was brought over. They put the bill in a small wooden box with their business card on it. This place spent way too much time brainstorming aesthetics, being rustic and all with the wooden boards… leaving the kitchen… rusty. Should have listened to the bad reviews on here!

We have never been to Aubergine but my husband and I decided to give it a try as their review noted vegetarian and vegan (which we are)options (although they have a very diverse menu even for meat eaters). The owner was wonderful talking to us about how all items are made fresh and by hand..and you could absolutely tell when you took every bite. The open patio was also a treat right on Main street in Newmarket. The portions were a very good size and the Sangria was amazing too. Everything was delicious and we will be return patrons for sure.

Such a great, cozy atmosphere! Incredible food. We could tell they take great pride in what they do. We had a reservation of 8, and got great wine pairing recommendations, friendly service and the food was absolutely delicious. We really appreciated how much our server engaged with us! We had an awesome evening! Highly recommend, especially for those with dietary requirements. They kept it vegan for me :) Thank you!

We organized a company lunch with the wonderful Eddy here and it was such a delight! The food was incredible, the restaurant was beautiful and very welcoming. I cannot say enough good things about working with Aubergine for a small event such as ours. We were able to organize our entire group and they were able to accommodate all of our requests and needs which turned into a fantastic lunch. Such a wonderful local business/restaurant that really was a special treat for us to enjoy!
