Irving Oil (big Stop Restaurant, Newport)

The first time we ate here, we decided to stop in for dinner after running errands in the area, and our expectations were not high. We both had seafood and were not disappointed ! Surprisingly, the Big Stop has some of the best seafood I have ever had. The fish and chips are second, only to that which I've had in England. We have had breakfast here a few times and are always satisfied. I am a pescatarian, so usually have to ask for no meat and they never have a problem accommodating. This is a great spot to dine, especially if you don't want to deal with driving to Bangor and also if you don't want to spend a lot. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service is always good. Now, this is our go to place for weekend breakfast and sometimes for 'date night'

I ordered a garden salad and veggie omelette with no cheese. The Salad had 2 large pieces of lettuce over top of spoiled shredded lettuce that was slimy and withered. It smelled so bad I immediately asked for a refund. I don’t know how she even thought to package it up and give it to someone to eat. It’s obvious that if someone order salad they like to eat fresh clean healthy food. Not rotten vegetables she should have tossed it in the garbage and told me that they were out of salad instead of giving it to me to eat. I could smell the foul smell through the container. Be careful who you trust to make you food not everyone has good intentions towards the people that patronizes their business.

We really enjoyed our food, but definitely felt like it was a good bit overpriced. When the kids gasp and say we should go somewhere else after viewing the menu you know there is a problem. Our waitress did have some trouble with our order as far as asking for types of toast and us choosing 3 different ones, but all plates were in the end served with wheat. Also the menu stated pancakes with a certain meal that our 3 boys ordered and when the food was brought there was only one plate of pancakes which she said was for the Mister's meal(which did NOT list pancakes.) She did bring out more for the boys, but just seemed odd. Maybe she was new.
