Beautiful pub full of character. Open fire and plush couches in the pub area. Loads of space and cosy spots in the restaurant area. We went for lunch with our 14 month old toddler. The staff were very nice and service was great. We ordered the starter platter, special steak and chicken and leek pie. All tasted really nice and good portion size. This was our second visit and we love it every time. Definitely be back again soon!
The best starter I have ever had at the pub. Whole Sunday roast was enjoyable. Hot with a good choice of both meat and vegetables. I have eaten at the pub, my local, over many years and feel that after a few blips over the years the overall standard of service is very good.
I stopped off here purely by chance having left the M11 motorway on my way up north. Having parked in the free car park I stooped under the door sill and checked at the bar if they were serving lunchtime food. They were! I went for the beef and wine puffed pastry pie served with spring onion mash, roasted carrots and peas. I washed this down with a pint of chilled Aspall's cider. I enjoyed this ad hoc lunch outside at the front in the sun. Apart from the noise of the main road this was a lovely place to rest on my long car journey.
I read that the King's Head is one of the most ancient pubs in Essex, and a destination in its own right, with parts of the structure dating back 450 years. It was originally built using old ships' timbers.
The service from behind the bar was warm and friendly. I would have loved to have stayed longer for a chat and try out some of their selection of beers. But I was driving and still had a long way to go. Shame. Maybe next time.
Visited last week and had light food of vegetable wrap and fish finger bap. The fish fingers were hone made and delicious.
Today had a lovely Sunday lunch, food was great I had lamb, my friend had turkey, followed by the berry crumble with custard and the blackcurrant torte. They were very busy, service was very good, nothing to much trouble, did not feel cramped, lots of different areas to be seated. Price of the meal against the cost was very fair.
We will return again. Thank you
We stopped at the King’s head on the way to Devonshire. The menu offers a good choice of delicious meals for carnivores and vegetarians alike. We were served by Liv who was lovely, efficient and very attentive to allergies and dietary needs. The food arrived promptly even though we had been warned of possible delays since they were hosting a private party. We’ll definitely stop here again when in the area.
Visited this great pub today, the staff were lovely, unfortunately the food came out a bit cold and the carrots were a bit tough but that was nothing compared to the roast potatoes which were like grenadines unfortunately. I had to ask for a steak knife so I could cut them!
The waitress was very patient. I met up with a friend I hadn't seen for 20 years so we had loads to talk about. She allowed us to take our time and really enjoy the afternoon
Arriving in the car park round the back of the pub, i found there was a huge selection of spaces to park. When I came in I sat down with friends in a corner on some armchairs in which we all sank straight into. The food I ordered was a portion of chips which were absolutely lovely, although I would say the portion was quite small. It came in a little ceramic cup (which was quite cute). The service was quite good too. A lovely young blonde man by the name of Jack was extremely friendly, smiley and approachable, very polite and was quick with a joke. For both food and drinks there was an acceptable waiting time and I wasn't displeased with it at all. Finally the atmosphere was top tier. The environment was very homely and traditional for a pub, coming at around midday, it was fairly quiet and was wonderful for a chat with friends. Noone was too rowdy, including who I assume are regular locals. The furniture was fantastic, comfy and cozy and the decor was nice too. All in all a fantastic little place.
Love the old style, fireplace, low ceilings and overall atmosphere with it being old. Food was lovely and staff were helpful, especially when my wife was after the baby changing room and one of the staff was his break took time to make sure everything was okay with getting access.
Really good friendly and unpretentious traditional pub with decent beer and good food with a proper chef. Very dog friendly. Kids welcome but not really a family pub - no kids play area, mainly adults but there is a kids menu and staff are welcoming of kids.
We live locally and visit when we can.
We had a lovely lunch for 4 served by Carol. Fantastic food, good tasting beer and friendly service!
Thanks Carol.
Great local pub, the atmosphere and decor is fab.
Lovely staff members and service especially from Fifi.
There was 5 of us tonight and our dog, and we had a lovely dinner and evening.
The food portion are good, variety of choices and the Dessert was yum!
Would go back and also highly recommend.
