Location is nice with parking nearby, food selection was more designed for a lunch rather than a dinner but was still very good for a Pub. Members of staff were very kind and friendly but service was slow, would return but no rush to go there for food

First time we've visited the Wig & Pen. Amazing food with great service. Reasonably priced and good range of beers. Highly recommend their Sunday roast. We had roast beef and roast chicken and it was excellent. Also recommend their steak n' ale pie with veg. Superb! Will definitely visit again.

Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food reasonably priced. Quick service. And dog friendly too. I can highly recommend it. The burger was moist and meaty and the fish batter golden and crispy. Delicious meal.

Really lovely older pub near the cathedral. I visited in the evening and there were plenty of people but the service was quick and it wasn't too loud at all. You can either sit inside or outside depending on the weather and how you feel.
I had the fish and chips which arrived quickly. It was really tasty and the food was hot and fresh. I'd definitely return if I was visiting the area again.

Fantastic!! Amazing!!! Brilliant place, the food was outstanding and the service was second to none. The staff could not do enough to help us tonight, the food portions were fantastic. We had to ask for a take away box for the chilli nachos as the portion size was amazing. Thank you for an amazing night guys. Would highly recomend this place. ❤❤❤❤❤

Last minute choice for Sunday lunch. Service was exceptional with table service and hello with an allergy. Real ales on tap. Roast dinner looked great. Steak and ale pie very moreish. Desserts were even better - rhubarb and apple crumble had a toasty crunch topping and smooth custard.
Excellent value for money.
Highly recommended. We will be going back!

We tried this pub for the first time on Sunday for food and drinks. The service was excellent and friendly, with a good choice of beers and local ales. We both had Sunday roast which was superb and definitely the best I have had for a long time.
We will definitely be back!

Pie and fish and chips, pint of IPA and a medium Sauvignon, £41 - look no further! Fabulous inside (as far as we went) and lovely outside seating place. The pie was a major event all on its own. Highly recommended.

Great service and beer. The food was good too but their roast potatoes seem to be deep fried.

What can I say, it’s my local and since becoming a regular I’ve made many friends and had numerous great times. You won’t find better or more friendly staff anywhere
Cheers

The staff are great and well managed, the beer is really well kept.I cannot comment on the food but if it is half as good as the ale it will be worth eating.

Sorry to say a basic meal of lambs liver and bacon was not good. Lamb over cooked like shoe leather, bacon more like a frazzle crisp which you couldn't cut, mash hard and lumpy without seasoning nor butter or milk. Seasonal vegetables (Green beans probably from Kenya) over reheated in the microwave and "Bisto" style flavourless gravy.
On a positive note chef did accommodate my wife's request for no oil or butter in her fish dish which she said was nicely cooked.
I don't know if they have changed their chef lately as it is a shame as this has had a good reputation for basic pub classics in the past and we have both eaten and enjoyed meals there in the past. Hope this was just a blip and normal service can be resumed asap.
Will give it another chance though.. maybe!

With a Group of friends surveying pubs that were part of the Fringe to CAMRA’s Winter Ale Festival. As it was close to Luchtime a lot of tables were set for eating but we managed to squeze around a table near the bar hopefully not upsetting the regular drinkers who seemed to take it i good faith. Excellent range of Cask Beers served by handpump from East Anglian Brewers. Pub has a lot of Character. Well worth hunting out.

Wonderful pub close to the Cathedral and law courts, fine range of locally brewed real ales to go with delicious home cooked food, and very friendly and helpful staff.

Very good selection of real ales and continental lagers, the food looked good, but didn’t try on this visit. Nice open area Out front with plenty of tables and chairs, ideal for sunny day drinking. Our group couldn’t fault it,so much so,that we stayed all afternoon.

Very friendly staff. Large outdoor seating area. Cheesy chips and nachos made a great light lunch shared between three.
