Went here for dinner on a Thursday night, was quiet but the music made up for it as the atmosphere and decor was lovely. Service was fast and our waiter was friendly and helpful, tentative but not overbearing. The food was very tasty and had an authentic feel to it. We shared an antipasti and a pasta course and had a secondi each which was more than enough as we had to take the rest of our mains home. Bang on, will be back for some live jazz I'm sure!
Love everything about this place. Great cocktails, delicious food and the live jazz is always a treat. I really like the decor as well, you feel as though you've been transported when you walk through the door.
An Italian restaurant that doubles as jazz venue. The food was remarkably good, on the whole, with the stuffed aubergines very tasty and highly recommended by the vegetarians in the group, and the pork medallions very succulent.
The jazz ensemble, a duo with the lead Italian singer treating the diners to a smooth repertoire, was nice and acted as a background music rather than being too intrusive.
Location I a quiet square of the Lace Market. Parking is extraordinarily expensive around the site, so use public transport if you can.
The host and staff were impeccable.
Two points worth noting:
- Vegetarian options are somewhat limited and the vegetarian pasta option rather dry
- The venue is more a restaurant that provides a setting for jazz rather than a jazz venue that happens to serve food. Lovely night out but would have loved a bit "rawness" and edginess about the jazz.
One of the best place to get Italian food comment is not from me but from an Italian itself. Nice ambience and great food
Staff did as much as possible to make a birthday special, they were all wonderful. Can't thank them enough. Food was lovely, all cleaned our plates . The only tiny tiny comment is that I'd say the music was a tad too loud for diners in a smallish space, the act they had on was brilliant, we enjoyed the music a lot and of course you go to a place like the Pelican for the music as much as anything else...but we still came out with sore throats from shouting across the table at each other all evening which was a little much when the act was in spitting distance anyway.
Great experience, food was lovely, everyone was very polite and live music. Unfortunately on a pasta dish there was a big piece of plastic at the bottom so my sister only found it at the end of her meal wich was a bit discussing, we raised this with the waitress and recognised the food was really good, she appoligised and that was it..we where expecting at least some discount on that dish but no compensation for the mistake was made, we wherent expecting much since she only found it at the end of the meal but it would have been a good gesture a discount on her dish at least. We paid around £130 for 3 ladies plus tip, no desserts, 1 bottle of wine to share,2 cocktails,2 starters and 3 mains.
Tastey food, with great music and brilliant staff. I would definetely go back. We had cocktails, starters , mains and desert. Everything was great except the ravioli i had which i was not the biggest fan of the sauce (hence they lost 1 star) , but that would not put me off coming back. Next time i will try a different dish. The atmosphere was fantastic and the selesction of cocktails topped the night off. Lovely restaurant.
Great place with life music and warm atmosphere. Very lovely and helpful staff. Affordable prices. Hope to come again to try some of their food.
Really lovely venue, friendly and accommodating staff. The decor and atmosphere of the place is great too.
Really liked the cocktails and they have a very impressive drinks menu.
Food wise, there's was nothing bad about it, however, there was nothing notable about it either. It was perhaps a bit below the standard you'd expect for the higher price. e.g., pasta dish lacking seasoning, not al dente, focaccia was a bit dry/chewey. But again we still had an enjoyable meal, but wouldn't come back just for the food.
The actual menu sounded delicious and very Italian, I just think it could be executed better. It's such a nice venue otherwise, refining the food would make it a top choice for Nottingham. I'm more than willing to pay £15 to £20 for a pasta dish, but it has to be really delicious at that price.
Treated hubby tonight for our Anniversary! Great selection of drinks and cocktails, All of the food was amazing and cooked to absolute perfection.
The bar staff were very friendly and Dan was so attentive! The lady jazz singer was also excellent! Will 100% be returning, we had a wonderful night!
