Lovely setting.
Very attentive staff.
Food beautifully presented.
Tasted nice but not exceptional.
Pricey.
Worth combining a river cruise with your meal to create an experience.
Had a six-course tasting menu at the Folly following a river cruise by Oxford River Cruises. We finished our cruise sitting at windows seats overlooking the Thames – what a delight. The staff at The Folly were very attentive and they coordinated so efficiently with Oxford River Cruises who’s cruise leaves from Folly Bridge. But to the food. It was excellent. Each course was a delight, flavoursome and presented with style and artist flair. Bravo to the chef and the waitress who was a delight.
Lovely place on the river for afternoon tea. It was a shame we were there in the rain and had an outside table booked. However, they moved us indoors with no problem! Afternoon tea was delicious with the option of adding on a glass of prosecco.
Good service and nice surroundings.
We did afternoon tea River cruise and it was really fab!!! It was a Christmas present so I wasn't sure what to expect as I hadn't booked it myself. It was such a lovely treat. Small boat with only a couple of other families, very knowledgeable and pleasant guide/skipper, best scones in Oxford, lovely scenery, wonderfully relaxing.
We did an afternoon tea on the river from the restaurant. The food was fab, especially the scones, yum! We had a great day so sailing down the river in the sunshine was fabulous. Captain Nick did a wonderful job of explaining areas in the river and was entertaining and knowledgeable. We loved the whole experience.
A brilliant contemporary take on our traditional british cuisine.
Exceptionally constructed dishes, beautifully presented.
The staff are perfect hosts.
The physical dining experience is sharp yet inviting. The riverside location is idyllic.
Menus are clearly labelled with allergen information.
It only misses out on 5 stars as there are no immediate parking facilities. Taxi set-down and pick-up places aren't available. Disabled access is poor due to steep steps from the road down to the riverside entrance. Although handrails assist decent.
If you can, definitely a place to put on your Oxford dining bucketlist.
Lovely and well priced restaurant on the river. We ate outside and enjoyed a blueberry cocktail. Weather showing this is a great option. The food was good and the service unobtrusive.
Exceptional food, great venue overlooking the river and boats - service was attentive and friendly!
We both ordered the lamb pave with triple cooked chips for our dinner. It was also made for my GF and DF sensitivity. The flavour was wonderful, lamb cooked to perfection, and those croquettes were to die for - I wish I could’ve taken a bowl of them home!
The restaurant was right next to the Thames river. We had nice seats by the windows but sadly couldn’t see the water - the roof of the marquee by the water blocked most of the view. There is a choice between an à la Carte or a 6 course prefix menu which offers six items from the à la carte. The food was prettily presented and nice. Service was friendly. 12.5 service charge added.
Went to the Folly for afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly.
It's pretty cheap considering we are in Oxford, and the location by the Thame is charming.
I was a bit disappointed with the food, though. Most of the sandwiches were really bland. The egg sandwiches tasted like mushrooms, which was really odd.
Selections of cakes were ok but not groundbreaking.
However, the staff is lovely and is very attentive. And the restaurant itself is pretty. Perfect for a girly / mother / daughter lunch afternoon tea.
It was still a nice experience.
