Been here many times over the years, on this occasion it was for a works xmas meal in the Blue Room (upstairs). Food was excellent and good value together with the great range of ales etc. Would highly recommend this venue to anyone whether for a function, an after work drink/meal or anything really, you won't be disappointed.

The recent transformation is very impressive! A group of us went there straight from work on a wednesday evening. The decor was calm, atmospheric, stylish and a bit 'steampunk' and I really liked it. We went for food and drinks. Food wasn't available until 6.30pm and it would have been a bit better if it were available slightly earlier especially for after work visitors who wanted to eat early and catch trains etc. and not be too late home. The food was absolutely delicious. I had fish and chips but it was a great piece of fish and mouthwatering chips all very well presented and at only £9 was excellent value for money. I'll give it a 4 star rating. It doesn't quite get the 5 stars just because we'd have liked to have eaten slightly earlier and I think the person serving behind the bar couldn't find the right button for one of the food orders and we ended up with the wrong meal but it was quickly rectified. I would recommend it and definitely go back.

One pub is like any other pub. Not, the St Aldates Tavern. That pub is in a league of its own. We are oldies but loved the vivaciousness of the place and of the staff. The girls behind the bar were smiling as they served, now that is a one off wherever you go or drink. We noticed an Asian group walk in and, obviously, unaccustomed to The British ways asked where they could sit. They were guided by the young lady behind the bar and then she took their order and waited on them. Now that is a lovely touch. Fantastic choice of 'never heard of' ales with exotic and quirky names. The whole décor of the place oozed FUN. The TV above the mantleshelf with its picture framing. The odd chairs and tables. We loved it and can't wait to go back for more.

Great find. Walk in off the street with my wife and asked "how to" with bartender. "Find table and then order st the bar" Well found a picnic table in the back went and order a beer and glass of red wine with fish and chips. Great beer, less great wine but totally awesome fish and chips. If you are ever in Oxford UK. Stop in and enjoy a friendly and laid back time.

Well its a bit of a strange mix , feels a bit wine barish and , obviously they are aiming for a better class of pub food . Impressed by the beer selection , which is not the usual national ales and are well kept. As to decor lots of the dark wood and nice lighting . Has quite a cosy atmosphere . Though strangely I get an old school dining room impression it might be the parquet floor .

This is one of the pleasant retreats after all this shopping hassle before you queue up in the bus lane. A very cosy watering hole offering real ales, most notably the exquisite Hobgoblin (now available as cider as well), with wood-panelled floorboards and wood generally all over the place. Nice music box with a good selection of tunes, too. And flags of Rugby teams England played against hanging from the walls and the ceiling. Friendly, very friendly staff behind the bar!

The St Aldates Tavern is a welcome addition to the Oxford dining scene as it offers very reasonably priced bar meals in a very lively atmosphere. Perhaps a little too lively in fact if you would like to converse, as when I was there music was blaring out of the speakers making it difficult to talk to fellow diners. The menu is very limited and the cuisine tend to be rustic. Much to my regret when I visited many of the dishes were out too due to a large party; this made the choice even more limited Not many tables either, so if you would like to be sure to have one you are probably better off booking. Very moderately priced for Oxford and minor gripes excluded the staff is very polite too, so all in all a good place.

This is another lovely Oxford pub - the best one down this end of town and a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of big buses roaring past. There are plenty of better pubs in Oxford, but this doesn't do a bad job, with real ale, occasional live music, a nice olde worlde feeling about it, and polite staff. It's generally not too rowdy, but it does feel crowded because there are never enough seats. Probably a place to grab a drink before moving on, unless you're lucky enough to find somewhere to sit. The inside is spoilt slightly by games machines, but this has come a fair way since its Hobgoblin days.

If you're looking for an authentic English pub meal this is your place. The fish and chips with peas and tartare sauce is to die for. The Mac and cheese bites were good too. Roasted mushrooms and halloumi burger was very tasty. They have a range of beer and other spirits to choose from. We had the Kiwi lime cider, Watermelon lime cider and the strawberry pomegranate cider and all of them were very good as well. With a warm ambience it's a great place to spend time with family and friends over a hearty meal. 😊👍

Nice pub, good atmosphere. Enjoying a good Sunday afternoon local style, not too many tourists around 😊. Didn't eat, so no review on the food.

Nice pub with an interesting selection of beers to choose from and staff willing to give recommendations. I enjoyed the slightly perfumed IPA. Point to note: We were stopping at Christ Church which is just across the road, and came out for a drink at Old Tom's but were turned away because they strangely stop ✋️ serving around 10pm. Not a problem here.😄

This Victorian ale-house is a must-add to any pub crawl; a nice selection of beers on tap (and at a very reasonable price, too), with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and plenty of comfy seating in which to rest your aching feet after a lengthy walk around the city.

I'm not a veggie as such but fancied a change and had the nut and mushroom wellington. Absolutely delicious and the veg was cooked to perfection. Simply can't fault it at all. I will definitely return soon for Sunday lunch!

Decent city centre pub with rotating ales and craft beer, sometimes do tap takeovers with features breweries. Good Sunday roast. They have an app for ordering to your table and it also earns you rewards which you can spend on food and beer again.
