A review of this place might be a bit unnecessary, as it closes tomorrow for a year for refurbishment, so I am told. Nevertheless, we spent a pleasant evening here, with extremely nicely cooked food from a wide ranging menu, with several vegetarian options, and all reasonably priced for the city centre. The environment is ‘historic’ at the moment and the refurb will apparently maintain the listed building status. The staff are all bright, breezy and accommodating (despite their jobs being put in abeyance) and were it to remain open, I would definitely have visited again.

We were looking for some Cosy place to have some typical food. Came across this very beautiful corner pub on the main street crossing Oxford. At first we were told to wait for a while. We chose to go to the other side, the pub side not the restaurant side so to avoid the queue. We ordered but some ingredients were missing so they had to change the meal for us. Quite a wait. The interiors are very very beautiful. Much wood and typical look of the Irish British pub. Food was very good. Bit expensive by my tastes. Customer service could have been better at first. A gentleman from Spain took care of us and offered us out of spontaneity coffee and desserts. Overall was 4/5 stars. I recommend this place if you're passing by. This place isn't the real deal.

This was one of the best stays I’ve had! We were met by a lovely man called Gabriel who instantly made us feel welcome and showed us to our room on the top floor. It was great value for money as the room was really nice and clean with clear attention to detail, and the hotel is so well positioned in the center. We left our bags with reception for the day and when we went back to pick them up the other lovely gentleman must have noticed it was my birthday and gave me a little surprise, ensuring I left the hotel with a big smile! The staff here are great, the room was spacious and clean, and the whole atmosphere of the building was really pleasant so next time I’m in Oxford I’ll definitely be staying here again.

Nice enough pub, cozy yet surprisingly spacious. Stopped in on a rainy afternoon after striking out trying to find space at several other pubs (Kings arms, turf tavern) and had a pint and a meal. Food is serviceable but not going to win any rewards (eg burgers are cooked all the way through)

Great place for a drink. Cozy and comfortable pub in the heart of Oxford. Great service, good prices, and wonderful atmosphere. Haven't tried the food, but wouldn't expect to be disappointed. EDIT: Had a wonderful dinner there eventually. Food was top notch, service excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Next time I'm back in Oxford, I know where I'll be having dinner.

Had supper here c.18:30 before a mid week evening concert nearby. The new decor in the restaurant was very pleasant, atmosphere good and staff very friendly and attentive. A good selection of menu choices, including interesting vegetarian/ pescatarian options and very fair pricing, including the house wines. The food was excellent.

Went here for Sunday lunch and wasn't disappointed the roast beef was lovely and a good selection of soft drinks. Looking around there was some lovely looking meals like battered fish and scrumy puddings. Our waitress was very good and food was reasonable price

Originally went to Jamie Olivers for roast dinner, only to be told none left. Went in for two drinks and thought food looked lovely in the Mitre. Went out for a walk and decided to come back for a meal. Had two roast dinners. Lovely. Roast potatoes could do with being a little more crisp, but overall lovely food. Service very good also. Very friendly staff. Will be back.
