This might be one of the best places to eat in Oxford in terms of its quality/price ratio. The food is simple, quick, and fairly cheap but with great flavor. I particularly recommend the garlic and chilli mushrooms. The menu is long so everyone will find something special. The service is efficient and the atmosphere is what you would expect in any local of the same price. The only downside is that they only accept cash, so be prepared.
It's been a while since I last ate their food as they don't deliver so I had to drive there (parking can be tricky). Their garlic and pepper chicken wings are excellent as ever (think these are my favourite of all the Oxford takeaways, they even cut the corner of the box to keep takeaways crisp on the journey home). Chow Meins are still excellent as was their Kung Po Chicken. Only disappointment was the "Beef with aubergines in black bean sauce". This was my wife's favourite but they seem to have changed the recipe - none of us like this one at all. Still gave it 4 stars as the rest was excellent. I've added photos of the menu as they don't have an online version
The food here is absolutely fantastic, cost to quality ratio is absolutely superb. I have ordered both delivery and collection and the service has always been prompt, and the food delicious. They have an open kitchen in the restaurant and while I waited for my food it was very reassuring to see the chefs maintaining a very high level of hygiene. I believe this restaurant has gone through various managers in recent years and the quality has been unreliable, but the current management are fantastic and Hong Kong house is back to being my number one choice every time.
Ordered from here on a couple of occasions now and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my dishes! I tried a curry for a change and there was huge bits of chicken in it, I was quite impressed actually. It will last me two days as portions aren’t small either. The delivery driver is really polite and helpful too, seeing as I’ve been inside for almost an entire year, it’s nice to speak to a friendly human being :D
My first time at Hong Kong House. Food was delicious. The spring roll was gorgeous- the Chili Squid was lovely although not very Chili. The Duck Noodles yummy. Will now become my take away of choice,
Really lovely friendly staff-
I've bought food from here for many years. Consistently good service, but I wish they accepted card payments, and had an online presence for ordering, or even just a menu. Take cash, and if driving, be prepared to take the risk of parking between the row of shops and terraced housing. Technically you shouldn't but I have never been nobbled for doing so
Situated a stone's throw from my office, this place was an experimental lunch done right.
Atmosphere 3 - Summed up perfectly by imagining a clean school dining room.
Food 4 - Smashing! At this price point the food is solid, tasty Chinese food with the option to add chips. Pure, distilled, comfort food!
Service 3 - Speedy and polite
Cost 5 - The prices, honestly dangerous. Tesco meal deal or Chinese curry with rice and chips (go on, try and shame me) I know what I would do!
16/20 - Methamphetamine has nothing on Hong Kong House, you'll keep coming back for more!
Generally nice & fresh ingredients. You can also 'eat in' and grab a beer from supermarket to wash your food down with. Nice toutch.
The specials are good, highly reccomend the garlic & chilli king prawns, and chow meins or the curry dishes.
Highly recommended for a quiet evening bite with other half or friends.
Had this Chinese for the first time this evening, the food took 15 mins and it was amazing. Portions were massive, and wasn’t greasy like any other normal Chinese I have had. Best Chinese. I would recommend this to everybody!
Good fresh food. A lot more expensive now. King prawn fried rice is more of a king fried rice and expensive for what it is. The beef is very tough to chew, this was not so before.
