Rice Box

The restaurant used to focus on takeaway, and, like its name suggests, mostly serve boxes of rice dishes. When I went again last month, the place has undergone a renovation and 'upgraded' to a restaurant. The dishes it serves are also more upscale than before. The food was good and cheaper than other Chinese restaurants in the area and in Oxford city centre. Only downside: no high chair for baby and the place was a bit cramped.

We arrived at the restaurant after a long trip. By the time we got here, most of the restaurants on Cowley road were shut, luckily this one opened until 11pm. We quickly ordered some of your typical Chinese takeaway dishes - beef ho fun, stir fried noodles etc. And the food was served rather promptly, perhaps there weren't many customers at the time. Quality wise, the food was quite good, and less greasy than some other Chinese's that you would find around this area. The owner was quite friendly and chatty, too. If you don't have too high an expectation, and just want a quick Chinese meal, I'd recommend this one, especially when you have no choice after a night out, when all other restaurants are closed.

Had a delicious "house special stir fry noodles." House specials in my personal opinion are always a safe bet if you haven't eaten at the restaurant before. Just like any Chinese fast food, it tasted like some MSG in it (not surprisingly though). (As of 2019) Note they only accept cash. The place was almost empty, and they served me the moment I ran back from the TESCO cash point, like 5 minutes after ordering.
