Whittington's Tea Barge

The host is hospitable and the service is amiable. It feels spacious even for someone who gets claustrophobic in tight spaces. It would be a bit of a struggle for physically challenged people to get inside the boat smoothly but worry not, if the weather is nice you can sit right outside and have your breakfast overviewing the thames river. Recommendation - Their variety of pastries are in-house (in-boat?) and they taste amazing. Do visit on friday for their hong kong style menu.

The toast and omelette was good. However, the best one was the Satay Beef Noodle (沙嗲牛肉麵). This was the best one I have ever tried which is even better from Hong Kong which is alway a “ok” dish to me - they never taste good. The beef was good; good seasoned, chewy but tender, better than those I have in HK which is alway a cheap one without meat taste with over seasoning. The sauce was in good balanced (I never enjoy strong taste). There was no taste of MSG which commonly found in instant soup noodle. Well, the waitress told me that they simply don’t use that! No wonder. The instant noodle was cooked just right, well, not the firm texture. But again, better than the than I have in HK. So, this Satay noodle is an upgrade version from HK to me - Thanks to UK good quality beef. The egg for omelette could be more or even double for better balance. The Ice lemon tea was good, in HK style that I ordered one more for encore. However, in my opinion, I prefer more ice for cooler temperature of the drink, even at the expense of lesser tea. It’s a pity that it is only available on Friday. If you want it, you need to come at on the right day with booking.

Had an afternoon tea last weekend, and we spent a lovely time sitting by the riverside whilst having scones and cakes. Staff were very friendly and kind, kept checking on us if everything was okay. We requested a vegan menu, and it was good. Vegan cakes were really moist and not dry, unlike other places. Everything was fresh and tasty. We will definitely come back soon.

Our first visit and we couldn’t fault it. Lovely, tasty food in a unique setting with a car park next door. We received such a terrific, friendly welcome and polite service. The owner took time to speak to us and explain what other things they do, from cruises to Hong Kong specials. The food was reasonably priced and it’s such a change to be amongst people that clearly really care about their business and customers. Will be returning.
