had lunch there today, was lovely, staff are helpful, place is spotless, would recommend, thanks.
Thanks to all the staff and management for making my birthday dinner last night special and to Kevin for keeping us fed and watered.
I had a nice time at the steam wheeler. I hadn't been for a few years, but it used to be somewhere my husband and I took our children regularly. (We stopped going due to lockdowns and ill health)
I would normally opt for a carvery, but as the only person who wanted that at the table of 10, I had the hunter's chicken instead so we could all eat together.
I made them aware of my allergies and they were very helpful.
When I received my dish it had an allergy skewer in it.
My chicken was very dry, and a little bit tough.
Everyone else was happy with their food.
We were also going to have dessert but the staff member joked to the child that there was no ice cream, so that unfortunately had been enough to make the child choose to go to an ice cream parlour instead.
(Some children can't understand jokes, and take everything literally it was not the lovely person's fault they did not know that)
The staff were pleasant, the tables were clean. The toilets were clean too, although not all the soap dispensers were working.
They have a small play area inside the building, as well as a nice play area outside. It is a family-friendly place.
They have lots of tables outside too, and plenty of parking.
Table originally booked for 10 but only 8 could make it, no problem for the staff who quickly rearranged and explained the setup. Two diners wanted carvery with the rest eating off menu. Drink order taken and delivered quickly. Food was amazing, everyone really enjoyed it. Staff apologised for slow coffee machine but there was no issue. Very reasonable price and staff were all lovely.
1st time & the service was excellent, very welcoming & friendly.
A little odd that they seemed to pack the corner of the restaurant with people while the rest stayed empty but didn't spoil anything.
The food was great, the cowboy burger was superb.
A sharing platter of nachos, 3 burgers & 6 cokes came to £60 which seemed fine to me.
Love the atmosphere, cleanliness, waiters esp Thomas we found him so fun and helpful. The carvery is always hot and we tell all our family and friends to come here ..hope from their feedback to us we can still get a seat...you're becoming so popular !
Very friendly staff on arrival and throughout our visit. Met initially by Jade who took us to our table and looked after us. Great value for money, and a nice atmosphere overall. Always enjoy our visits to the Steamwhealer.
Jade our waitress was excellent and very friendly.
I’ve taken off one star from food as the roast potatoes weren’t great, also there was no mashed potato on the carvery.
The roast beef was incredible. We’d come back!
Customer service is exceptional. Food was also fantastic. I'm definitely a customer for life even though it's 100 mile round trip for us
Carvery was really nice! Hard working staff. It didnt go unnoticed. Thank you 😀
I stayed in the Premier Inn opposite for a week and frequented here for meals. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I appreciated their conversation and speed of service.
The prices are good, especially for the carvery.
I knocked off a star because the quality of the food can be lacking. Definitely room for improvement here but it was not terrible or inedible.
It is a comfortable/relaxing setting and I was grateful to have this option so close to the hotel.
Scottish breakfast: £6.75
Large Carvery: £8.75
Overall it was a great evening. I didn’t take my usual carvery because everything looked a bit stale. My daughter did and we had to ask for fresh mash which even tho they obliged, it wasn’t very nice. Most of us had mixed grill which was nice. And the staff sing happy birthday was amazing. Can’t fault the service at all.
