Although we live but a short distance from Barningham, we have visted Coghlans, on more than occasion to enjoy one their superb Afternoon Teas. Our visit today, was down to the fact that we were given an Afternoon Tea voucher by friends as part of one Wedding "gifts". We chose the date as the 13th February as it marked the anniversary of our first date way back in 1964. We couldn't do owt about the weather but the ambience and the quality of what was served was spot on.

Five of us came for sparkling afternoon tea to celebrate my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday. Everything was first class, from the friendly reception, the beautiful table with fine bone china, the food (including warming soup to start!) ..... Nothing was too much trouble, and every morsel of food (including the bread for the sandwiches) was made on the premises. All the food was so fresh, clearly not prepared hours before our arrival. A really enjoyable celebration.

A gem in the Dales. From the moment, we arrived, we received a very friendly welcome from the staff. Their attention to detail was impressive. The sparkling afternoon tea was simply delicious and served in beautiful china. The environment is refined yet relaxed thanks to the professionalism of the staff. Thank you so much: we created wonderful memories.

We decided to try Coghlans for an evening meal, I’ve got to say it was an excellent experience from beginning to end. The food was superb not fussy or pretentious just spot on! We had four courses a couple of glasses of prosseco and a bottle of wine for £85 so also superb value! We were the first customers to arrive and were made to feel very welcome by the staff, the meal was well paced never feeling rushed or to slow despite a large party and several other bookings arriving after us. We will be back to sample the afternoon tea in the near future. Excellent.

Our daughter had booked afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco for us as a Christmas gift. We had such a lovely experience and hope to go again soon ! The soup, sandwiches, quiche, scones, cakes and a proper cup of tea could not be faulted...delicious ! The young lady serving us was professional and pleasant. The icing on the cake was when we learned Coughlans was dog friendly and we cant wait to introduce out Airedales who both work as Therapy dogs to this lovely place !

My husband and I called at Coghlans en-route to Edinburgh. I bought a deal on Groupon for Afternoon Tea for two with Prosecco, my husband had Prosecco, I had sparkling elderflower. I don't drink alcohol so my favourite pastime is having afternoon tea and have visited many establishments over time across Yorkshire mainly. My long-standing favourite was in Helmsley but it was knocked off the top spot by Coghlans. We are heading north again soon and will be calling again.

Took time during a long weekend in the Richmond area, and dropped in for afternoon tea. Useing a birthday voucher we were very presently surprised by the quality of the service and the premises at Coghlans. The afternoon tea was of a very high quality. On the occasion of our afternoon tea the restaurant was empty apart from us, therefore the overall atmosphere was a little underwhelming.

Had Christmas lunch with two friends today (10th Dec). Really lovely meal, well served at a relaxed pace and in a very welcoming atmosphere even though our party of four were the only diners. However there was one huge disappointment, we ordered a bottle of South African Merlot from the wine list. This arrived in a decanter, no sign of the bottle at any stage. Said nothing at the time as we did not wish to embarrass our friends and also because the only waitress was on her own with no sign of any management. This offering could as well have been Chateau Rotgut 2019 as the bottle of Merlot that we had ordered, it might well not even have been the full bottle. Who knows? In any decent restaurant the bottle is shown to the customer to check that it is the one ordered then opened at the table before serving. The use of a decanter for a bottle of wine listed at £19 which has probably cost the restaurant in the region of £4 is a pure affectation and could not in any way improve a wine of that quality. While not accusing Coghlan’s of anything underhand one is left with a slightly sour taste which detracted from a very pleasant meal. Food excellent, serving of wine in need of much improvement.

This is a glorious place to eat in an evening and now with Sunday lunch - you can just sit eat, drink, chat … and let the afternoon drift away. Excellent food and drink. Polite and helpful service and hosting. Can't wait for the next time.

Heard about this little gem of a restaurant through FB, decided to visit and was not disappointed. There was something on the menu to suit all together with a good wine menu it was going to be a good night. Started with a blue cheese, hazelnut and lentil salad which was refreshing. Followed by a spiced parsnip soup served in a cup which was delicious. Turkey was my choice for main with seasonal vegetables including a mini turkey Wellington which was rich in flavour. My daughter had salmon and she said it was delicious. Trifle to die for was my desert. Finished off with a coffee and mini petit fours. Staff were fantastic and the whole night was great value for money. Will definitely be visiting again.

Bought a voucher for afternoon tea for mams birthday for here. We had never visited here before but had heard excellent reports and wow were we impressed the afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco or sparkling elderflower if you were driving was beautiful. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted devine we were so full after that I never ate anything for the rest of the day!!! You even got tea and coffee too oh and a little glass with home made soup to warm you up first. The staff were lovely really friendly explained everything and gave you a run down on what you were going to eat when it came out. I can't wait to come back it's the nicest afternoon tea I've ever had. We visited the little bakery shop too where we discovered that they did free home delivery's throughout the dale which is such a fantastic service for elderly or disabled customers who don't find it easy to get out for fresh bread cakes milk eggs etc. They have also started delivering afternoon tea to so if you have a special celebration coming up you need not have the hassle or stress and just get it delivered. How fantastic is that. Can't wait to come next month and sample the Christmas lunch.

We visited for afternoon tea with our little dog and our 1 year old baby. We had a lovely table in the corner set with a high chair for our baby. The food was amazing and the service very friendly. We were made to feel very welcome and it was so nice to be able to enjoy a lovely treat with the whole family.

We called in here on spec for lunch on a Saturday, what a find. We were seated very quickly. Really lovely venue as athough it is in a hall it is very cozy. Service was very good. Our waitress was very pelasant and helpful. I ordered the salmon salad and my husband had the ploughmans. There was olive bread and wholemeal. The salad arrived and was delicious with thick slices of salmon. The ploughmans was very plentiful with lovely thick ham and good quantities of cheese accompanied by celery and grapes. We had a nice bottle of rose to accompany our meal. We didnt have dessert but will definitely be back to sample their afternoon teas, which looked delicious (you need to book though).

Where else can you get a delicious four-course dinner for two for under £70? Not only was the food exquisite, but the service was decidedly top drawer. If you count the homemade multi-flavoured breads which came out first then I suppose one could call it a five course meal! And as it was my birthday they had bothered to get a firework candle ready to sparkle at the end with a complimentary chocolate tart! We were able to take our own wine but it is completely unnecessary as the proprietors are connoisseurs and will be able to guide you to a perfectly wonderful bottle or two. I can recommend the Braised Beef; it is cooked for about 24 hours before you arrive and 5e flavour is incredible. My salmon mousse starter with prawns and smoked salmon was great and the ginger and whiskey cheese cake was a perfect finale. Brava!! Encore!!!

30% savoury (bottom tier), 70% sweet (top 2 tiers), personal preference would be 50/50 split. Sandwiches (finger) could be improved by more rustic bread and greater quantity though had tasty fillings. Mini quiche was lovely. Good selection of desserts, clotted cream and jam scone delicious, 'financier' cake a close second. Felt sick by the end of the sweet desserts. Service attentive and polite. Location remote but in a lovely village setting.

Absolutely superb afternoon tea! Very plentiful but, more importantly, excellent quality and variety. Old favourites and new things to try too. Tearoom service is very friendly and efficient too. We loved everything about it!
