Great location close to the A66, lovely secluded location, Room 1 was spacious with a Super King bed. Very comfortable mattress & pillows. Nice sized bath but no separate shower. Good dinner & breakfast menu choice, all cooked fresh to order. Your evening meal table is automatically reserved for you for each night of your stay.

We had a lovely few days staying in Barningham and this was the local. Well looked after and very friendly mix of locals and visitors. We had ab evening meal and the Sunday roast while we were there and definitely recommend. Also dog friendly and there are tables outside as well as in when the weather is good. Do book in advance though if you're eating especially in high season.

Visited today with my husband for a Sunday roast after a big weekend of walking. The decor is sublime; a delectable ode to Farrow and Ball. How to decorate a pub to perfection. Great setting. So cosy. Large car park. Music selection great. We’d been walking all day and found this just off the main road back home. Exhausted and starving we craved a roast. The options were beef and pork. I asked for a veggie option and there wasn’t one (except pasta). I’ve been a beef farmer in the past and grown up rural so I know not to be annoying re vegetarian options in a country pub (although I do appreciate them if they’re there), so I asked for my meat to be on my partner’s plate and they made me a veggie gravy. Really appreciated that. I used to eat meat (malpractice putting me off) so I could tell that visually the roast meat looked exceptional and my husband agreed it tasted so. I only had the trimmings but it was glorious. £17.50-19 for a roast which is expensive for our personal finances (a treat) but a fair price for the excellent experience - ambience, staff, quality and portion. Genuinely great wine selection including UK wines. As happens in many rural North Yorkshire pubs you may find yourself sat in a room with tweed-wearers whinging about how to get out of paying tax who are pro-hunting. Definitely recommend.

We had a lovely meal here on Saturday night following a big walk locally during the day. The menu was small but well considered, although we both went for fish and chips in the end! The staff were great, the pub really well presented and there was a nice selection of wines and ales available too. The only thing that soured our experience was the rather disparaging couple on the next table who seemed to be enjoying critiquing every other guest and their food order, making the atmosphere a little uncomfortable for us and leading to a shorter evening at the pub than we had originally planned. We'll stay for dessert next time! ;)

We booked a table for dinner on our last night of the weeks stay (in a nearby converted barn) The best food of the week ! The fish and chips were excellent as were the steaks. The interior is very tasteful and relaxed with a real fire. Service is excellent. Highly recommended !

Good service, nice beer (Timothy Taylor's Landlord / Black Sheep), and excellent food....they've kept the menu quite small, but do it really well....fish'n' chips was really good, as was the Linguini with chicken 👍👍

Karen and the whole team made our stay here welcoming and wonderfully tastey. Never before have I known black pudding to steal the show in a Full English Breakfast, but it was phenomenal (and the other items were not slouching - all locally sourced and quality products). The steak at dinner was beautifully cooked on the open grill in the yard, and every bit the treat a steak should be. Then the curve ball - the pizza was also great - cooked fresh in the wood burning oven and topped with the great quality, fresh and actually flavoursome tomatoes, cheese and beyond. We stayed a couple of nights in the undeniably compact, but equally cosy Cabin room - which was comfortable and all we needed. The other rooms and cottages however looked very appealing for a longer stay. The barman's name has totally slipped my mind - but I wish he was taking care of the barrels in my local. Proper ale (Landlord, Black Sheep), cared for properly - with gallons of personal pride taken in ensuring standards are maintained (on one occasion, he eyed a haze that might not settle - long story short, the barrel was checked, changed and I had a replacement clear amber pint in my hand as well an apology before I was even sure there was anything up). Without question, simply some of the best pints I've had in perhaps a decade. It was a last minute thing, but what a gem we stumbled upon.
