A step back to civilization. A little drive from the motorway and town. From the moment we stepped in we were greeted with a very friendly smile. My sister in law had booked via an online service and we weren't allocated rooms close to each other, but the receptionist changed that as soon as she found out the 3 rooms were for one family. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and had large seating chairs. We're from the tropical Caribbean and I greatly appreciated that they had already turned on the heating. The bathroom had an electric towel rack, so you won't have a hot shower followed by a cold towel. An important side effect of the electric towel rack is that the tiled floor and the toilet seat are warm even when you get up in the middle of the night. The breakfast was great. They cater for all tastes. Three of us had vegan food and my two brothers in law had non-vegetarian food and we were all very satisfied. I can certainly recommend the Boar's Head Inn to anyone. And the village of Ripley is very peaceful. All the residents we met were very polite and welcoming. I'll end my review exactly as I began: this place is a step back to civilization.

Went for lunch today. Place was busy but we were seated quickly. Staff very friendly and helpful. Chose from the lunch menu, homemade soup and sandwich. Very nice!

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago and couldn't recommend it enough. The location is picturesque and typical of a quaint British albeit wealthy countryside village, with a village store, art dealer and plenty of places to have ice-cream! Oh, and of course it has its very own castle nearby too! The hotel room itself was extremely cosy and quintessentially British in the best way possible, but with a modern bathroom. The food, meanwhile, was good, but not fantastic. Portion sizes are always going to vary from place to place, but there did seem to be inconsistency in amounts based on what dish you chose. My wife's starter was piled high, whilst mine was meagre; the cheese beefburger, too, was quite dry for my typically unfussy palate, especially where burgers are concerned! The full English breakfast, though, was delicious. The staff were fantastic and very welcoming and helpful, and the general atmosphere was chilled and relaxing. Just what we needed, and what we had hoped for when we booked, to be honest. I wouldn't say there's an abundance of "things to do" in Ripley, beyond the castle and grounds obviously, but we did enjoy walking around the main village and just enjoying that old British vibe thing I mentioned earlier. Harrogate is only down the road, too. Even though it's adjacent to a busy main road, we still felt disconnected from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day society, and that in itself is priceless, for me at least. Finally, just a word on accessibility. It wasn't an issue for us, but I'd be mindful to flag for anyone with mobility concerns to raise it early with the hotel. It is obviously an old building and designed without mobility in mind, but I know for a fact that my grandad would have struggled climbing the steps to reach our hotel room! The climb from the bathroom floor to the bathtub was also quite steep, weirdly. Not sure how a wheelchair user would gain access anywhere either, though again I would think the staff have provision (I just didn't see it during my visit). Other than that, a wonderful place to visit and definitely will be looking to go again in future.

Called in with family for some light refreshments. Service from the staff was 1st class, all friendly, we'll presented, really professional. We had a wide range of drinks, from ale to coffee, with vegan options. We'll definitely be back.

Just quick lunch stop and found very good sandwiches, smoked salmon and cream cheese, and soup with great service. Other choices looked good.

The Boar's Head is a lovely place to stay. We had room in the Keeper's part of the out buildings. We had a view over the courtyard. The room was great with everything you could need and the bed was extremely comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. The cooked breakfast was equally fantastic. It is ideally based for visiting the Yorkshire Dales, Pateley Bridge, Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Knaresborough and Harrogate. There is the Castle itself to visit and a cycle route passes through the estate. You can cycle to Knaresborough to the East off roads and West towards Birstwith/ Burnt Yates via Route 67. They have dog friendly rooms. I would thoroughly recommend staying at The Boar's Head.
