Beautifully located in the picturesque village of Ruswarp and the steam train runs right past the bear garden. Sunday lunch was fantastic, home made Yorkshires, roasties and gravy, large potion sizes and a great selection of meats and fresh veg. The desserts were fantastic ( particularly the sticky toffee pud). 3 ales on behind the bar and a lovely warm and welcoming bar area with friendly staff. The only difficulty we had was parking as there is no designated car park and there's limited parking in the village. Would definitely recommend though and would certainly visit again.
Lovely Pub with great atmosphere, ideal for dog walkers , families etc … it’s just a traditional pub in a beautiful location next to the railway line where you get a a very close view train spotting the Steam Trains in the busy holidays and weekends…
You Also will get to see some of the local reprobates exampled in the photo 😂
Great 👍 to see this place open permanently again. It truly is a hub for locals and visitors a like. I received a friendly welcome from both staff and customers every time I popped in during my stay in Ruswarp (June 2023). Fosters £4.30, Moretti £5.20.
Lovely find. Excellent food and large portions! I had the homemade lasagne which was amazing and staff were all lovely and accommodating! Thanks so much!
Best Sunday lunch we’ve had in a while Different size portions available with plenty of tasty meat. Great portion of vegetables and gravy. They also were able to sell us an extra portion of roast potatoes. Only managed one dessert between us. Biscoff Cheesecake with ice cream (Amazing) The owners had been there for just a year ad have clearly put their mark on the place. Entertainment provided nearly every night. Would definitely return when we’re here again. Thank you 😊
We stayed at Ruswarp Hall down the road. We arrived on a Monday evening and were starving after our drive up! We walked in and found the atmosphere very cosy, there were Halloween decorations up and not many people inside. I had fish and chips, my partner had cheeseburger. The portions were huge and the food was a bit on the pricey side, but the service was faultless.
First of all there is no car parking at this venue so ensure you park on the adjacent road or further back along the road next to the river near where they moor the rowing boats up. The pub is welcoming, often busy and you'll be seated within a few minutes. I can recommend the bottled Cider as this is what I drank on both visits to the pub. The Sunday lunch is excellent, a choice of Beef, Lamb or Pork with all the trimmings. It was very good value for money with enough meat for everyone. You can ask for and get more gravy which is imperative with a Sunday Roast. On the second occasion I had the Mince and Onion pie which was homemade and full of filling. All round excellent.
Very nice country pub, reopened Octiber 2022 with new management. Great food and friendly staff. Children and dog friendly with a beer garden/outside deck. The Bridge Inn may get it's name from the road bridge which replaced a tidal ford many years ago, but the real treat is the iron railway bridge close to the beer garden. I had great fun waving at the passengers on one of the steam trains - a "railway children" moment for me!
I had Whitby Scampi with home cut chips salad and homemade coleslaw, the Scampi was cooked to perfection, crisp outside but moist and recognisable Scampi on the inside, the chips were excellent, like the best home made ones I've ever had. Others had Veg Lasagne again with those great home chips salad coleslaw and a couple of slices of garlic bread, also the burger (double), fries, coleslaw, salad and check out the onion rings!
All together this is a great spot, lots of walks round about in the Esk Valley and this would be a great refreshment stop.
Throughly recommended, food was being served 12:00 to 20:00 when we were there.
I cannot recommend the Bridge Inn more highly. We arrived from the beach with a tired toddler and excitable dog at the end of a busy lunch period. Despite this all the staff we met couldn't have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful. They sorted out umbrellas and dry seats for us, came and took our order swiftly and really made us feel welcome. The food was excellent and really big portions - well worth the price which is not extravagant. The beer was also really good and obviously kept well - having run a pub myself in the past I notice this when I eat out. As the main was so good, I wanted to try a dessert even though I was full and I had the best Eton mess I've ever had. I was genuinely sad when I'd finished it. If you're staying in Whitby avoid the overpriced, rammed places in the centre and drive a couple of miles out to the Bridge. You'll not regret it.
Finding The Bridge Inn on our first day made our Holiday. Asked for Gluten Free options and they made the batter fresh, and it was excellent. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere and lovely food which you can swap around so you can have the hand cut chips if you want. Lovely outdoor seating area next to the river and train line so you can watch the birds on the river or the occasional train trundle past. We stayed at Ruswarp Hall, 200 yards up the road. There's a footpath into Whitby across the road so we walked into Whitby and called into the Bridge on our way back and did this every night.
