Charming hotel. Quaint and very nice. The staff is super friendly. Very good breakfast. In my personal case, I had a problem with the reservation due to a problem with my travel agency and the front desk manager did everything possible to get me a room.

Had a great time staying here as part of a residency at a local school! The room I was in had some quirks from the change between seasons but staff were very responsive to feedback and requests for help. Would love to come back.

The Cross Keys was our choice for our wedding venue 29/09/23. It was a shot gun wedding and was planned in 7 weeks! I contacted the Cross Keys for our intimate wedding reception and Simon was an absolute star from day dot! He listened to what we were trying to achieve and exactly what we wanted, he was understanding and reassuring throughout planning, and honestly our day was just how we pictured it! The team were friendly, accommodating and on hand throughout the build up, the day and the morning after. I could not recommend Simon and his team more for everything he did for us. The food was perfect, the rooms clean, organised and comfortable too. Thank you so much!

6 of us stayed 2 nights for a family wedding in the area. Friendly staff from start to finish, meal on the Friday night was delicious. All 3 rooms great. Excellent breakfasts both mornings. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back, thankyou.

A Beautiful building with plenty of character in a small picturesque market town. Centrally located with lots to do in and around Saffron Walden. Staff are pleasant and friendly but give yourself plenty of time when ordering food and drinks as the service is very slow even during quieter times.

If you are planning to have a little rest in a cosy town, if you enjoy the vibes of a market town and if you need a place to stay, the cross keys is definitely ideal. A cosy pub and hotel mixing modern and old styles, with friendly staff, nice English breakfast and welcoming accomodation will help you wind down and enjoy discovering the perfect blend of an old English town with its nearby and soothing countryside. If you are lucky like I was, you could even get to enjoy the sun in the cross keys' s outdoor space, or relax in its open, non fussy yet well furnished barn.

Over the years and the different management teams and later chefs the Cross Keys has been an extremely variable eating experience. The same is probably fairly said about the current management, but when we visited recently early on a Tuesday evening, the food and service alike were reasonably good and not particularly expensive. Little choice for a vegetarian, but The Keys jyas never been their friend.

Best Sunday roasts, busy weekend for sure with Audley end events, but team kept up and helpful friendly staff. Food was good and atmosphere was great. Even with more every table full I was impressed.

Stayed here for one night. I had booked a King En suite with bath and was very happy with the room (no. 8). This was accessed by a spiral staircase across the courtyard at the back of the hotel. In brief, a decent sized room, lovely floorboards, deep bath, very clean and probably the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. The chap who dealt with us (sorry, I didn't get his name) was very helpful and cheerful with nothing being too much trouble. He certainly made us feel at ease from the moment we arrived with a bit of appropriate banter thrown in for good measure. The food, both in the evening and next days breakfast was lovely. Did I mention the bed? The parking was the only slight issue but the public carpark was only a very short walk and cheap. Having arrived after 5pm, it was free until 8am. I purchased a ticket, on arrival, which covered us until midday. 4 hours for only £2. Obviously, reviews are subjective, but I can only speak as I find and I would definitely stay at this place if I found myself the area again.

Popped in today for a glass of wine and a snack. Large loaded fries were amazing and service was great, especially the chefs (restaurant is often variable)! Thanks Cross Keys!
