We're so glad to have found JB Wines - lovely shop to browse, with very helpful advice, they know their stuff! All bottles purchased to date have been delightful yet reasonably priced. Recently enjoyed an evening of platters - lovely atmosphere, very tasty food. Have recommended to several friends already, and we'll see you again ourselves soon!

I recently found myself in need of a wine subscription after cancelling one which wasn’t enjoyable anymore. So after a little research discovered Joseph Barnes Wines not only sell wines I’ve enjoyed at restaurants but also offer a wine subscription at 3 different price tiers and as an all red, all white, or mixed case format. Decided to try out the subscription and promptly sent in a form and called to make payment where I dealt with the charming and very helpful Charles who swiftly signed me up. 12 different bottles shortly arrived (which is preferable for me since I want to broaden my knowledge compared to the previous subscription providing 2 of 6 different styles) and included personalised tasting notes (the content is succinct and is already improving our (my girlfriend and I) understanding of wine). We’re only 3 bottles in but so far all of the wine has been wonderful and matched up with the tasting notes - so feel this is the subscription we should have had before. So much so we’ve jumped up a tier. Really glad to discover Joseph Barnes Wines and happy to recommend.

We've eaten at JBW on several occasions in the last few months (lunch and dinner) and this is quite the best food and wine for miles and miles around! The menu changes weekly, influenced by local seasonal ingredients, and every dish is a real delight. The chef Alison, @aclarevoyant, is so creative, serving up absolutely delicious small plates home-made with ingredients from local suppliers, complimented by a wide range of wines from Charles and his friendly team. Today's handmade squid ink tagliatelle with English seafood was second only to the homemade black pudding & crab with preserved tomatoes. We'll be back!

EAT HERE. BUY WINE HERE. What an amazing addition to the range of places to buy your wine or eat out in Saffron Walden. Charles has always offered a lovely range of interesting wines you won't find anywhere else and, having moved recently from a much smaller shop, I think his new place is a far more appropriate setting. It also has a lovely split level restaurant inside offering Friday night dinners and Saturday lunches so we simply had to try eating here. We took family with us on a Friday night and found the place buzzing. At our table we all experienced a beautiful selection of small plates made by a very talented chef, full of delicious flavour. Each dish had a recommended wine pairing (by the bottle or glass) so you don't even have to think about that unless you want to. There is nothing in town remotely like this it's utterly unique and we will certainly be back for more. I'll also continue to pop in for wines that are 'off the beaten track'. Well done Charles - you bring colour to our town!

The aim of Joseph Barnes Wines is to introduce interesting and unusual handcrafted wines from small, independent producers and constantly seek out new and exciting wines that are rarely available elsewhere but still represent great value for money. Strike a good relationship with them and the road to better drinking begins.

Not one of those boring wine places with non descript piles of bottles crowding the place. If you're after an interesting, well sourced well priced bottle of wine then this is the place. Nicely curated selections, helpful knowledgeable staff... And seating for about 10 if you want to stop in and sample glass or two
