Great Vietnamese food at very reasonable prices . Don't be fooled by it's appearence it's a whole in the wall yes. However everyone comes here local politicians, workers in the neighborhood even celebrities have visited this place and all leave Happy. Try the Spring Rolls their fantastic ! The various Curry fried rice , crispy noodles and bbq pork are great too . I have been to Vietnam before and the food here is the next best thing to going there.

Super friendly owner and the most tasty noodle dishes! I live around the area and came here twice this week already haha. Love the hearty and flavorful vibe.

My overall favorite restaurant since moving to San Francisco nearly 40 years ago. I especially love having my meals prepared and served by these same folks for forty years! A delicious bargain. I sure miss eating at the counter, though!

If you're brave enough to eat on 6th street than you know this is a hidden neighborhood gem. Everything you expect from a hole in the wall. Seedy neighborhood. Not the cleanest place, or the best service but the food makes up for all of it by being Good, Cheap, and Plentiful. I'll vouch for the imperial rolls, viet iced coffee, and fried fish with ginger sauce.

San Francisco Institute, since 1977. It was great to see they remodeled the restaurant, cleaner and more inviting, which is a huge plus considering the location of the restaurant. For anyone who hasnt been, the neighborhood IS quite rough, but as you walk your way to the restaurant and examine different aspects of life, you are then rewarded with delicious food once you're in. Strongly recommended. 👍🏻

So good to revisit this hole-in-the-wall. I use to work across Market St from there. Same delicious food, and friendly owners. Glad they survived the pandemic. Ordered #17 - so yummy!

Tu Lan is a survivor. Saddled with a crummy area, constant review by the BOH and a fire, TL continues to crank out some of the best Vietnamese food I’ve had in SF. Its cheap, fast and portions are huge. Over the years my favorites are the #20 Crispy Noodles, #23 VN Style Fried Rice and the #24 Combo Plate with Imperial Rolls and Pork. Service is no frills, quick and abrupt which is what you’d expect for a place that turns tables and counter seats dozens of times a day. Parking stinks around here so take public transportation via City Center Bart or Muni. Grab a seat at the counter to watch the show. I hope this place never dies.

Went at 5pm on a Friday and there was no wait. The line got much longer closer to 6pm. The food was very cheap and had large portions so it was super filling. We loved the fresh spring rolls and the pho was delicious and authentic. Would definitely come again!

Update: The restaurant looks different but todays was first time in two years! The food is still flavorful and delicious! Looks like they did a bit of renovation. It's much cleaner and not so stuffy! But the food was always so good! They put a new sign outside! I ordered my favorite fried rice. Shrimp Curry Fried, they can also do vegan style with Tofu! Sooo good! Service is fast and we didn't have to wait long to be seated! What an improvement! A little hole in the wall that serves good food! The place is tiny downstairs but they have more seats upstairs but still a bit small! The food is awesome and service is ok. The price is standard, not super cheap but not expensive! Get your food to go because it gets hot and crowded inside! You may have to wait for a table to sit!!! The staff are here to serve you and not too often that they smile.
