Having eaten here a couple of times before it seemed like the right venue for a meal with our family visiting from overseas. We weren’t disappointed, the service was as usual attentive, polite and unhurried; the food excellent great menu not overloaded & confusing but something for everyone and cooked/presented to perfection, so tasty; a great selection of wine/drinks and a price that reflected the quality of food etc but wasn’t extortionate. Our family loved the whole experience & we will definitely be returning.
Visited for the 3rd or 4time last night and overall I feel the place has diminished in quality and atmosphere.
Only table available a a " corner nook" next to the fireplace with a communal sofa behind my chair. This is where children were allowed to sit.
Food: good, excellent Tempura summer vegetables and Pea and broad bean with mint Creme Fraiche were executed and presented well.
Mains
Black olive sundries tomato and rosemary risotto with crumbled goats cheese. Again presented well and brought together all the flavours.
However this may be better of offered as a starter
Pan roasted chicken supreme. Good and an excellent calvados cream
Facilities
The menus presented were disgusting, stained and wrinkled and clearly been around the block a few times.
Ladies toilet did not have any toilet paper
Overall the pub remains a good venue but it has deteriorated in my opinion from the high point of around a year ago
One of the very best meals in a pub I’ve ever had - everything I ate was perfect. The seating in the garden is very pleasant and the staff were all very helpful and friendly (although we asked for some water a couple of times and it never arrived). The food is very very good value. The bread and butter was sublime, the mushroom and truffle risotto so creamy and decadent and the Eve’s pudding and custard so comforting and tasty. I would really like to return and try more things from the menu. Soon I hope!
The food here is outstanding, and so reasonably priced. We ate three delicious courses and paid less than £35 each. Honestly it is brilliant value. The outside area is really nice too. Only slight downside is the very tight car park, and we asked for tap water twice and never got any. But aside from that it is really great.
The food was a delicious and the menu really interesting, but I think we suffered from a case of expectations vs reality. The vibe of the pub is traditional and cosy with a fire place and cute dogs, but the menu didn't quite match up to the hearty pub meal we were hoping for. It aligned more with a refined British restaurant, smaller portions and slightly over priced. Having said all that, the food we did eat was very tasty, special mention to the braised leek dish, which was entirely vegan, but very creamy.
The staff were also very attentive and the decor with dark wooden beams was lovely.
Attended a family wedding here and everything was so perfect. Staff were amazing, food totally first class.... hats off to the chef. ..and the venue itself was faultless. A fabulous time made all the better by this fantastic pub and its staff. Thank you 😊
Housed in a 400 year old pub it has that British country warming character. The warmth continues with chatty, friendly, attentive and helpful staff. Their guidance through the menu was honest and exemplary. The recommended veggie burger was the beat example I have had the pleasure of eating. The staff went in as far as recommending a dessert and pairing it with off the menu ingredients. Their side recommendation elevated and complemented the crumbly dish. Price is excellent given the quality. On this occasion, which is rare, I was sad to say goodbye.
I had read the food was good. and it was sooooooo good. Lovely little place.
You will not be disappointed. Oh and the team are just delightful. Thanks guys for a cracking little lunch. 😋😋😋🤫🤫
A lovely setting for a pub & restaurant with beams and uneven floors.
Retro furniture that's mismatched but it all adds to the ambience. It's a busy place but thats because it is popular. The food is excellent and pricey but well presented and so full of flavours. Most of the ingredients are sourced from local farms and producers so everything is fresh. Good service and knowledgeable staff. The wine list is extensive and if you are keen on cocktails there are many to choose from. A perfect place for a romantic meal or drink. Unfortunately the car park is very small. At busy times you'll be better off parking towards the top of the hill rather than in the pubs car park.
Lovely pub that specialises in great food and service. Nice bar, open fire and casual dinning tables downstairs. Further dinning space upstairs including a little private dinning room. The food was superb, staff were friendly and provided great service and pub has great character. Highly recommend.
Good atmosphere and cosy, typical English pub in the area. The waitresses are very friendly. The food is average but with good company.... You don't even notice!
Booked this pub to celebrate our granddaughters birthday. They have a play area for children which is quite secure.
The food and service was very good.
