We tried getting a table for an early dinner on a Friday night and were warmly greeted and were led to a lovely table in the window. After enjoying a lovely locally distilled gin, we shared several starter sized plates with a gorgeous bottle of white Rioja. Each plate was excellent and the unusual format was perfect as it meant we ate everything super fresh and didn't over or under order as we ordered 2 plates at a time. Highlight was slow cooked lamb! Specialises in 'gin and jazz'; we can vouch for the former, but left before the band started! Lovely restaurant tucked away off West Street, but well worth trying and good for groups of friends or romantic couples.

Great Sunday brunch. Staff are super knowledgeable and appropriately attentive. Food was superb and moderately priced. Definitely recommend

Tempting choice of gins and cocktails. Friendly staff. Didn't experience the restaurant area but the bar snacks small but perfectly formed, which was ideal for us

We had tried a couple of times to eat here but it was fully booked - a good sign! This time we were lucky as we wanted to eat early ahead of a theatre trip. Friday night at 6pm it was fairly quiet ahead of the jazz later on with a few other diners but no one drinking at the bar. Nice intimate feel, if a bit dark for our tastes with tables nicely spaced around the central hub of the bar. The small plates are big enough to satisfy and the prices fair for the quality and presentation. 4 people shared: 2 crayfish and avocado, 1 onion tart, 1 cured meats, 1 fishcakes, 1 klefico and 1 belly pork plus 4 desserts. This felt just right and no complaints from anyone. Including drinks average cost £25 per person. We'll definitely return and try and coincide it with the jazz.

We were looking for somewhere we hadn't visited before and Trip Advisor lead us to this place. The layout of the restaurant is interesting with little rooms surrounding a small bar all fairly dark but nicely decorated. The atmosphere is slightly more formal than other similar places with more attention paid to table settings etc. The welcome we received was friendly and service was excellent and peronal throughout. The menu described as a, "sharing menu", was varied consisting of small plate offerings across a wide range of, fish, meat and vegetable dishes. The descriptions of the dishes proved to be accurate which certainly helped. The two of us started off with three plates and eventually ordered another two which proved sufficient for healthy appetites. We didn't order any sides which at £3 would have bulked out the quantity and reduced the overall price. The dishes ranked from superb to at worst well above average. All the dishes were beautifully presented and full of flavour. The ingredients were obviously fresh and the poached and fried eggs which came with two seperate dishes were perectly cooked and so tasty We visited at lunchtime in the middle of the week and the venue was very quiet however I believe at night this is not the case. A nice touch was that we were encouraged to order a bit at a time so we didn't over face ourselves all in one go. The fact that the dishes arrived very quickly meant that this was a very sensible way to order..We will definitely return.

Fantastic owner, lovely staff! The owner is extremely knowledgeable on all types of gin and tonic pairings and took us through a mini gin education. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience and the live band was fantastic! Would recommended 100%

It's this new taster plate system so£8 for 1 plate. One savoury is fine for me but the other 5 of us had 2 savouries. It is exciting choosing and the taste combinations are mostly exciting. My lemon risotto and sea bass was good. Mushrooms seemed to go down well. The Samosas were more greek than Indian so not as expected but still nice apparently. Then all six of us ordered Creme Brûlée. Apologies to the table that ordered after us because there was only one left after that. The waiter was discreet but human when we amused him. The pace was relaxed which suited us and the whole party enjoyed the atmosphere. Thanks Trippets.

Went today with friends and found a bar that had an extensive gin collection with the knowledge to go with it. Despite it being quiet, the atmosphere was great and the staff all friendly. I’m sure the jazz evenings are fab. We will be back!

It is not often you find somewhere that you wish you had found months ago, but Trippets Lounge ticks that box. We had some bar snacks, but didn’t eat as we had already organised where we were going to eat. However, the menu was great and we will go back, very soon! What we did do was sample the extensive gin collection aided by the excellent lady behind the bar who clearly knew her stuff, was an excellent hostess and couldn’t do enough to make our visit a very positive one. We went at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon with friends, it was very quiet, but great. Go on some evenings or on Sundays afternoons and there is good jazz band music to be had. I cannot speak highly enough of Trippets Lounge Bar. Can’t wait to go back, and that will be soon!

Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. I loved the extensive gin menu and the wine was good too. Food was nice I suspect better when it's not a fixed menu and will be going back to find out very soon! The tapas menu looks amazing.

Went for a pre-theatre meal and found ourselves escorted to a cosy table fortunately away from a Christmas party who would definitely have annoyed in close proximity. The small plates idea is definitely “in” right now. The standout fish was a beetroot cured salmon which was really nicely done. A little small for sharing unfortunately l. The terrine offer was a little bland and tasted chicken-y. I’d go again to sample more dishes. My only criticism would be that it took about 20 minutes from sitting down to having an order taken and that is a bind when you’re on a definite deadline.

My husband booked this for my birthday, lovely relaxed atmosphere with live jazz music. The dining area was separated from the main bar which was nice, and the food was really tasty and well presented. The waiter explained how the menu worked, a little bit like tapas, you order as you go. We started with 2 dishes, then ordered another 2 afterwards. We then had a dessert each which was amazing! Sticky toffee pudding. Recommend a visit.

Looking for a special treat for my wife and two friends (two of us had birthdays on the 27th of October!) in central Sheffield I plumped for Trippets Lounge Bar on the base of some reviews....... and what a find! Great welcome, afternoon jazz, fascinating menu.... a cross between tapas and 'main meals'...... with something for everyone (including gluten free options!) and a fixed price option that included a glass of champagne. How could we say no to that with two discerning 'fizz drinkers' in the party! The hosting was excellent... nothing too much trouble.... food and drink very very acceptable and the atmosphere was just right. A most enjoyable birthday Sunday afternoon. Thank you Trippets!

The last time we came here was years ago when it was under different management and was more of a classic wine bar. Some of the feel is still the same and it still has the charm of the original building with internal columns and several smallish separate dining areas, but it's had a serious make-over and looks great for it. Sometimes using a lot of black just makes a place dark, but here the combination of dark but high ceilings and a mix of black on the lower walls to table height and then white above, with lots of bright white windows and some very stylish tall candles, works really well. We thought the atmosphere was great, especially with the rain bucketing down outside on a chilly autumn evening as we sat cosily by a radiator under the window. The menu is an impressive one, focussed mainly on the 12-15 dishes (changed regularly), described as tasting plates, from which you're encouraged to choose 2 or 3 to share. Think large tapas portions, and some seriously toothsome combinations - like our haddock risotto with poached egg, wild mushrooms in a cream sauce on thick toast, also topped with a poached egg, or the watercress and parmesan roulade with mixed leaves - and all immaculately presented. There's plenty of choice for fish and meat lovers, but also enough for vegetarians to drool over too, there are some excellent nibbles and appetisers to start (try the paprika cheese straws) and the 4 or so desserts are equally winning. Unsurprisingly the wine list is also top class but very reasonably priced. Throw in highly efficient and friendly service and great music in the background (jazz, as befits a venue that has live jazz on Friday and Saturday nights and on Sunday lunchtime) and you've got a great combination. We definitely will be back, and preferably with friends too so they don't miss out on a great place.

Telephoned to book - straightforward. Arrived early and had a lovely Rhubarb gin with ginger - served by lovely friendly chap at the bar. After a drink said we were ready for meal, were taken to our table and the lady was lovely, friendly, humorous and professional. The food was divine - we had between us baked cod on bed of buttery risotto; my other half had strips of pork dish and I had the mushroom dish - the three starter size meals with side of veg was just right for us. Perfect location, with a short walk to the city hall for our concert. Thank you Trippets!

16 of us celebrated coming to Sheffield in 1979. We had an impromptu gin lesson combining old favourites and new flavours followed by an excellent 3 course meal, all with the jazz in the background. Friendly, helpful staff made it a night to remember.

Trippets has restored some faith in having an evening out in Sheffield. Couldn't have asked for a better night out. I was out with my daughter and we both thoroughly enjoyed the night. We booked a week beforehand and our table was ready on arrival, it was ours for the evening. A table for two right by the window. We were as faraway from where the band were playing as you could get but it made for great background music as we dined. The menu was mouthwatering and lived up to expectations. We shared three nibbles, four plates and had a different dessert each. Although the dessert defeated the daughter! What incredible flavours we experienced, all well presented and just the right portion sizes. The cheddar & leek bites with Cumberland sauce was particularly outstanding. I myself drank the bottled bitter, my daughter had a couple of gins from "the gin bible". Again faultless. The great thing about it all was that you could order your plates as and when you were ready to eat. There was no rush what so ever, no one coming over "are you ready to order, are you ready to order?" It took us almost three hours to complete our meal. Afterwards we popped into the bar for a drink and listened to the swing band. A group of students from the Uni swing society were there dancing their socks off. It was great to watch. Even better was the bill when it arrived. Take off the £20 deposit and we were left with a meagre £53 to pay between us. Fantastic value I thought for a fantastic experience. The only down side to visiting Trippets was that I'll now have to take the wife next time.
