Simply, some of the best food and wine served anywhere. Ok, you can get cheaper elsewhere but not of this special! We sampled 2 wines both new to us. Unexpectedly excellent. Wonderful to be able to buy quality wine by the glass.
Food was imaginative and perfectly cooked and timed for our theatre visit served up by friendly and helpful staff. Obviously a very happy environment to work in.
** If you were one of the raucous young men eating at the same time, be aware how much you caused discomfort for eaters and staff alike. Please be mindful no one really appreciates having to put up with a background of your loud and course conversation and piercing guffaws. We all are deserve to be able to enjoy a night out without such interruptions.
Well done to the staff!
A place not to miss out on. Do try it!
(The chances of having to share the space with such thoughtless men are slight )
Superb place, close to the theatres in Sheffield. Excellent food. Fabulous interior and brilliant staff and service. Highly recommended pre-show but this place is really worthy of time being spent over your meal. It has a huge wine selection at some crazy prices, if you wanted to spend a lot of money on fine wine! It has normal priced and great wines too. Thank you for a lovely experience
The best Italian restaurant in Sheffield, and joint #1 in the whole of the UK, along with Lanterna Ristorante in Scarborough!
Thank you. Utterly perfect food, lovely setting, great staff.
Will be back.
If I could give this more then 5 stars I would. A lovely place down a quiet street in the city centre. The food is phenomenal and the service is just as good. Probably the best meal I’ve had anywhere in some time. 10/10 😀
I have now dined here 3 times. For me VeroGusto is a solid 4+ stars. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, very much a family run feel. Some of the staff are Italian. The decor is bright, but the dining area feels quite intimate. There is a lovely 'wine wall' at the end of the restaurant. I understand their selection of wines is very good. You can even buy online.
Now, the food. The style is not in any way like a chain Italian. It's focused more on presentation, quality ingredients.and cooking. Think more Masterchef. I started with the Burrata & Pomodoro followed by Acquerello (with sea bass and king prawn). Finishing with a Tiramisu. My starter was a new dish to me, the overall flavours very nice, the heritage tomatoes being a fresh flavour. I felt a contrasting element (bread) would help as the dish is quite soft textures. The Risotto with sea bass, delicious. The sea bass portion could have been bigger, it was about three inches square, but the flavours across the risotto really good. Tiramisu, if you like it, you will like this.
Overall, some may find the portion size to price a little high, but that's why I gave four stars, for those that like a fuller plate. However if you are looking for a more sophisticated dining experience you will love it.
The staff were great, willing to chat and have a joke. Attentative but not overly. Plenty of vegetarian options and being on the ground floor would appear to be wheelchair friendly (I would check this first though).
Definitely in my top 5 Sheffield restaurants and a return visit likely to happen soon.
We wanted to try this restaurant since we moved to Sheffield, but you need to book a table about 2 weeks advance. Very good quality and the service is amazing. Loved it.
Absolutely fabulous meal, service & atmosphere excellent. Would definitely recommend & will return. Thank you for making our night.
Very delicious authentic Italian food, with great wines & dessert too. Quite pricey but it does evidently go into the food quality and preparation. Taking away one star though because I didn’t like the ambiance much — tables were too close together and the dining space a bit busy & distracting. Service is fast and attentive, but not the warmest. Was expecting a different vibe for the price. But all in all, while it was not the most relaxing/ romantic fine dining experience, it’s the food that can make you keep coming back.
Pretty nice!
The risotto pretty nice, the shrimp was fresh and the fish was really fresh and tender.
The pappardelle is rich of lard and really tasty. The soup was really rich!
There was a fly in the shop tho.
Perfectly located near to Sheffield’s Lyceum and Crucible theatres this restaurant is one we’ve visited regularly over the years.
For once we’re not in a hurry to tread the boards and we can enjoy a leisurely dinner.
The bar area isn’t the most attractive but it’s fine for a quick Prosecco before we sit down. Soon we’re whisked through to the much more attractive dining room, although it’s very noisy.
Starters are tomato & burrata salad and calamari & arancini both very tasty. Meanwhile an excellent Nero di Troia from Puglia arrives. Mains are lasagne, orecchiette Pugliesi (a beef stew pasta) and rump of lamb - all excellent.
We finish with lemon delight, a mascarpone cannoli and of course the obligatory Limoncello. All in, £70 a head isn’t cheap but quality food and good service costs and it’s money well spent.
