This is a fantastic cafe, staffed by lovely people making delicious food. It is also using food that would have gone to waste otherwise. The food is properly lovely though - it's not like you have to sacrifice having a good meal to "do good". It's also Pay as You Feel, which means you can trade services, goods, time, energy or money for your meal. Genuinely great place, doing great things.
I have attended lots of junk food events and the bonfire bistro last night was the best food I’ve had in a long time it was amazing !
Went to the 1940s bistro evening at the end of April 2019. Had a fantastic four course meal; leek and bacon soup to start, corned beef fritter, ham and beans and carrot and ginger cake the finish. It all tasted really good and they had veggie and vegan options available for each course.
Steeple corner cafe is run by Food Works (formerly the real junk food project) and all the food served at the bistro night was destined for landfill. The cafe is run by volunteers and our front of Holly gave a really passionate talk about the charity and how they rely on donations even though they get the food for free - there are a lot of other costs to run 2 cafes, support local schools and run the pay as you feel market.
Great cause, great food. Would highly recommend. The bistro is pay as you feel - please be generous with your donation.
Great idea, making food available to everybody, regardless of budget. The fact that the menu is variable subject to what is available means I have tried some dishes I might not otherwise have considered. I think this cafe is founded on great principles and we enjoy our visits. I'd give more stars if I could.
We've attended the cafe several times and always found the food very pleasant.
Attended a Bistro night for International Womens Day and have to say the food really was restaurant quality which was presented very well. 4 courses if super food. Could have been nicer if there was a choice of 2 dishes as some people can be a bit fussy but then again that could result in more waste.
Its amazing what can be done with 'junk' food.
I've now been here on three separate occasions (twice for breakfast and once for the bistro evening). An interesting concept, with great attention paid to the quality and presentation of the food. A real asset to the local community. Unconventional, of course - but confidently recommended to all.
literally the staff are the nicest people, the food is so good, the whole concept of trjfp is cool as heck and you should all visit. the food is different everyday so you'll be in for a surprise! (they also provide vegan and vegetarian dishes!)
It's a great initiative that proves that great food can be made from any ingredients. The staff is very friendly and the food we really well priced, just pay as you feel.
Food is lovely and the staff are friendly. So sad it will be closing its doors next week
Fantastic food, great service from the team would really recomend.
excellent. a community project which uses food that would otherwise end up being thrown away. Delicious and ethical.
Love this cafe, food great and staff really friendly
