The Running Fox - Shilbottle

Lovely place this, we went for a very straightforward afternoon tea. Food was great and we really enjoyed the pies and quiche. The scones were to die for and still warm! Light and airy with a nice crust. A must see if you're in the area! A great selection of cakes to eat in or takeaway!! Is it jam then cream or cream then jam?...hhhhmmm.....

Lovely trip out to the running fox for afternoon tea. Friendly staff and a chilled out country pub atmosphere added to a lovely afternoon. The food was very tasty and there was so much we had to get a takeaway for the food that was still left ( didn't want to leave it as it was too nice😊 ). There were unlimited coffee top ups to keep us going and the staff were more than happy to bring us a fresh brew. Very highly recommended for an afternoon break when yiu need a bit of relaxation. Thanks again for a lovely afternoon.

Wonderful village cafe, serving amazingly tasty food with great service. Visited twice during our week long stay in Shilbottle, one for a breakfast, once for lunch. Online it looked like there was no availability but i went in and asked and they fit us in which is fab. Breakfast was delicious, lots of options, served quickly. We had 4 kids with us and the waitress was so good with them, bringing their food and drinks first and amending the menu to suit. Lunch was amazing. The pies are so tasty, the soup of the day (mushroom and truffle) was amazing and the coffee was the best we had all holiday. The kids afternoon tea was a revelation. Kids get to choose sandwich or sausage roll, Crisps, drink and cake (soooo much choice, massive slices and all delicious). Brilliant way to do it and came on a little tiered plate which the kids loved. Well worth a visit even if you're not staying in the village.

We had a Full English and a Vegetarian. Both came with loads of top quality ingredients. Absolutely delicious! The staff were friendly and we couldn't fault our visit. We got called to take away. Three for £8. Amazing value and the cakes were to die for. Also of note was the size of each cake - enough for two. Wow.

Price: ££ Food: 10/10 Portion size: 10/10 Atmosphere: Relaxed Dog friendly! Being the second branch that I have visited, I had high expectations for the food and they certainly did not disappoint. Arriving, it is easy to find plenty of parking behind the establishment and with quite a few tables, usually a good chance of getting in without booking. (Though I would definitely recommend booking in advance!). The building itself is within an old pub, so there’s a somewhat comforting atmosphere to the place. Without a doubt, I would recommend the afternoon tea for two. The portion sizes are huge and you get to sample from a larger-than-normal selection of sandwiches, pies, quiches and cakes. Having been before, I knew that I would not be able to finish the entire set as it is quite a lot, but the staff are quite happy to provide boxes for you to take anything away with you. The baking is absolutely out of this world. I would recommend to anyone. They also do local delivery for anyone who wishes to have their afternoon tea at home! It’s a shame they don’t deliver further afield as I’m just out of the delivery range! There are both indoor and outdoor seating for those who wish to sit outside, as well as disabled access and the allowance of dogs on the premises as well. Cannot recommend this establishment enough, and will recommend all other chains nearby too.
