Review The George Townhouse - Shipston on Stour

We were staying for just 1 night. You upgraded our room which was a treat - on the front overlooking the high street. We ate dinner in your restaurant which was excellent - wonderful service. And breakfast the next morning was equally good. We were returning after previous visits and it's so rare when it doesn't disappoint. The atmosphere at The George is always just right for us - relaxed and good attention to details. Well done!

Arrived mid afternoon after a tour at the Cotswold Distillery. Small car park at rear with easy access to hotel. Room was immaculate, crisp sheets, plush carpet and gorgeous bathroom with roll top bath and huge rainfall shower. Very relaxing! Dinner was excellent and staff attentive and helpful. Good choice at breakfast of continental and cooked, beautifully decorated throughout with interesting paintings and cosy areas to sit. Good value for money. We look forward to visiting again, thanks to Simon and all the George team.

Make sure you book a taxi as limited service in the area. Super Sunday lunch and a breakfast that keeps you full all day ! Flexible staff and room happened to be available early. I liked the window seats and being able to watch the high street I would have preferred a firmer pillow but that’s my own preference. All staff were very friendly and relaxed and manager was part of the team and had a good overview of the hotel and restaurant areas helping out if he needed too seems to no problem to him. Would stay again when we are in the area.

Fabulous hotel, perfect for a visit to the Cotswolds Distillery. Lovely superior room, very spacious with a comfortable bed. The service was excellent, every member of staff was super polite and helpful. The breakfast choices were great and the food we ordered served very hot and tasted delicious. We had an evening meal, which was equally good. The only disappointment was arriving to a view of scaffolding from the window as the hotel was being renovated. Understandably this needs to be done but notification before our arrival would have been appreciated plus a reduction in price.

It was a vibrant and unforgettable night at the local pub, filled with laughter, music, and the electrifying presence of a truly talented singer. As the dimly lit room reverberated with the clinking of glasses and the buzz of animated conversations, the stage came alive with the enchanting melodies that flowed effortlessly from the singer's lips. Their voice, a mesmerizing combination of soulful depth and captivating range, effortlessly captivated the audience, commanding attention and evoking emotions in every corner of the room. Cheers and applause erupted after each song, as the singer's heartfelt performance resonated deeply within the hearts of everyone present. The atmosphere was electric, and the pub reverberated with a collective sense of joy and appreciation for this extraordinary artist, making it a night to be cherished forever.

A wonderful stay, with the most helpful and friendly staff all around. Superb restaurant. Very comfortable room, the only thing missing is air conditioning; on the upper floor it gets quite warm and one has to leave the window open and the blind drawn up, so early morning light coming in can’t be prevented. That said, a terrific value.

What an awesome place. Great staff (very friendly and knowledgeable), the food was delicious and I was surprised (plesently) at the price. I am certainly coming back here. Brilliant.

Stayed for 1 night, pleasant staff, good choice of drinks and crisps at the bar. The room was lovely, well stocked with good quality toiletries, clean throughout, very good shower, comfy bed - generally a bed nice place to stay

My wife & I enjoyed a short stay at the George Townhouse Shipstone stour the room was big & spacious & a good quality bed ,a good size bathroom with an overhead shower the breakfast was good. I thought that for the money biscuits could have been provided each day with the tea making facilities & the TV was small .also the bed wasn't made up when we returned later that day.but on saying these things I would return & hopefully the small changes would be made

This was a Father's Day luncheon for me and my daughter. I have used the restaurant facilities here before. Service was a tad slow in taking orders/delivering drinks and unfortunately, the roast chicken was somewhat dry and stuffing too. These are however minor flaws in an otherwise rather pleasant experience. Perhaps, the young waitress might wear her skirt a little bit longer.

Free parking in the centre of Shipston and a welcoming old fashioned pub. It offers a wide range of food and drinks and good coffee. Clean. Good service in central location.

Well what a night - Andrew James was simply superb. We came to see him but the real surprise was The George what a welcoming pub with friendly staff, the food was superb and a great night had by all. We will be coming again.

This venue was just a delight - last night we turned up for food - we got to witness the best live music, the atmosphere was so welcoming and the service was just outstanding. This place is amazing ❤️highly recommend

There is nothing negative I can say apart from the lack of parking, even so it was not a great problem. The accommodation, food, drinks, service and surrounding were all great. As for the staff, they were faultless, accommodating, friendly and helpful.

Great food and great service, the wonky corridors and room floors just add character, if you want to avoid noisy children don't go Thursday daytime as its their mother/baby group day , apart from that it's brilliant

Just moved to Shipston. We call in to the George on various nights for coffee, or alcohol or soft drinks. We like the outside area, and inside has charm too. Been when it's busy and quiet. Haven't eaten there yet, but plan to.

Fabulous fish & chips! Good service and friendly staff! Just wondered why no mash appeared on my partner's pork loin dinner!

Excellent food and very friendly service for a special Sunday lunch treat. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub! Seated swiftly with no prior reservation and drinks orders taken. Good choice for a sunday menu explained with recommendations from our server. Food arrived in decent time and it was delicious. Will eat here again and recommend to our friends.

Walk in dinner guests with some stringent medical dietary requirements in the party. Couldn't have been more pleased with the interaction with bar staff and chef to ensure they could accommodate our needs and wow! they delivered beyond our expectations with one of the best menu adaptations with very tasty fresh food to the table. Good beverage choices so had a fabulous evening - thank you. ...

Very impressed with the food and service, my Steak was cooked just how I wanted it, massive chunky chips and a super dessert, we would recommend The George to anyone! Keep up the good work!

Two night stay. Made to feel welcome from the outset. Nice comfortable room albeit on 3rd floor. (Feeling my age!) Lovely food and massive breakfast. A little disappointed that as a resident there was not a table reserved for evening meal. (Make sure you book it) A table was made up for us in another secluded area in the bar. Young and very hospitable staff. Credit to the company.

Had a lovely room with amazing wonky floorboards added to the charm. All the extras such good value....sherry, prosecco, spa toiletries, and excellent food. As my daughter has just moved into Shipston will enjoy more visits. Thank you.

Excellent meal and service, last minute booking but we still had a good table even though it was a very busy Friday evening. All staff friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Couldn't fault a thing.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, rooms are lovely, staff are even nicer. Nothing is too much. Luke is lovely & Hayley ( I think) could not have been more welcoming. My only negative is I was only staying for 1 night. Can't wait to return. Food was amazing .. if you forget anything the staff will find it for you.
