Had a birthday lunch here, it was inviting from the outside so we popped in. It got better & better. The staff were spot on. The food & wine just perfect but the atmosphere was amazing and it wasn't because it was busy but the decor the music and you could people watch through the windows. Can't wait to go back. Thank you!
We had a wonderful meal here Saturday evening, so much so that we went back Sunday afternoon and both meals and experiences were thoroughly enjoyable. We have no hesitation in recommending it. We both really enjoyed every dish we chose and the most memorable were the seafood parcel and seafood soup but every dish was a success. There was a good choice of meat, seafood and veg dishes. The fruit brandy was a theatrical and pleasant end to the meal.

This place came recommended by a local. A few times I walked in, and no one was visible to greet me, so I left after a few moments. A few times I walked in, and it was too quiet (some overlap) so I left after a few moments. I ate there once or twice.
The food was pretty good.
Great restaurant serving mouthwatering-ly delicious French-inspired dishes. The food is varied and cooked with high-quality ingredients, and the wine list is extensive (the Lombard Champagne was really good!).
The setting is cosy and historic, the upstairs restaurant area being full of character features.
The only issue with this place is the knowledge of the waiting staff. They were all very friendly and welcoming, but they did seem very inexperienced and a little clumsy. Their knowledge of the dishes and the drinks didn't live up to what would be expected of waiters in a good restaurant.
However, I would still highly recommend this restaurant, we always have an excellent experience. Hopefully management will be able to make the training and development of waiters a priority, and then this could be the go-to restaurant of Skipton!
Really tasty meal well cooked and pleasantly served. The restaurant is comfortably informal and gives a relaxed environment.
I would have given a five-star review but there were a couple of negatives:
1. Our main courses took a long time to arrive (we had a deadline)
2. One course (though delicious) was not what we ordered.
Despite the above, would still recommend.
Editing to amplify my "really tasty meal" comment above... The food was truly great and tasted like it was prepared by someone who cares and I believe the prices were sensible for the quality.
Very impressed with Le Bistro des Amis on a previous visit so wanted to try it again. Good easy to use online booking system, lovely welcome on arrival, clean surroundings and lovely ambience created with the cosy surroundings. It was Thursday lunchtime and most tables downstairs were occupied but there's a nice amount of room between tables so you don't feel on top of each other. Good selection on the lunch / early bird menu and everything we ordered was great - garlic mushrooms, toad in the hole, seafood parcel, pork fillet. Quality produce, cooked well and nicely presented. Thank you to all for making our family lunch so special. We will definitely be back again!

I attended this restaurant 9 months pregnant with my best friend and I had the most fabulous experience!
I called as a last minutes booking and explained I am 9 months pregnant. The staff were extremely accommodating, I was provided an extremely easy access table with a seat with extra cushions for extra comfort!
I was greeted on arrival by a gentleman called Frazier who was most polite, professional, and knowledgeable regarding the food and wine pairing.
A real warm and friendly welcome.
The french savignon blanc paired perfectly with our sea food dishes! Then seafood parcels are divine, and the fillet of plaice with lemon butter was so tender and cooked to perfection.
Service was second to non! A really relaxed, beautifully seasoned and cooked meal. Our server Ellie was also very friendly, bubbly and professional.
After working in the industry for 7 years myself in silver service I can promise you a spectacular dining experience here at reasonable prices. (I didn’t really want to leave!)
By far the best food and service in skipton.

Amazing staff, great atmosphere and superb food. Literally the best of French influence with Yorkshire food. We had the duck confit and the Normandy chicken escalope.
Both were well cooked and full of taste

Firstly the service is exceptional, the decor and ambiance is most comfortable, but when it comes to the food, the standard is of a very high degree and the depth of flavours makes this restaurant a most classy experience indeed.
