I love the chicken spit in the entrance, something of a tradition that I first experienced in the ‘60’s
Fine times at The french Horn. One of the things I look forward to on returning to england is a trip to our families favourite restaurant The French Horn. There really is nothing like it in BC so it's a real treat.
The location is great by the river and it has real charm and character. An aperitif of champagne is always on the cards to wash down the cheese straws, by the fire in the lounge.
We had cornish crab with beetroot and horseradish and lobster ravioli to start with which were excellent. The chateaubriand for main course is beautifully cooked and presented. i had the spit roasted duck which was delicious and just about managed a crepe suzette for dessert.
There is something reassuring about the french Horn as it is so consistent each time you go. The staff are all friendly and serve in a professional old fashioned way, with a lot of charm and character. The food is always excellent and the pace leisurely. It has a stellar wine list that makes for some good reading and probably some good drinking if I could afford Cheval blanc!
I cannot imagine a more wonderful place to spend a Sunday afternoon, it is the most idyllic setting. Starting with drinks on the terrace, followed by a fabulous meal consisting of quite traditional British fare with french influence, served in generous portions.
There is no feeling that you shoudl rush to order or eat, unlike some other restaurants which feel like a revolving door.
I am grateful to live near such an amazing place, and return as often as I can.
