Easy walk from car park up to the Dam along a tarmac roadway that runs next to the river Avon, Dogs love to have a swim/paddle in the water although they need to be kept on a lead at all times due to wildlife and local sheep. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Great views along the way. Car park is quite small, so you need to arrive quite early, £2 for 2 hours or £4 all day. There are toilets situated in the car park and there are a few picnic benches along the route.

A beautiful place for a lovely little walk. Roughly 2 miles each way, half of the walk is by the stream and the rest is across the moors. The other side of the dam is a nice walk around the water. There is a free car park at the beginning with toilets and benches for picnics. This would be a good place for children or to walk the dog.

Shipley dam South brent. Lovely walk to Dam. Takes about 1.45 mins to do round trip. Pay and display carpark with toilets. £2.00 for 2 hrs. Coins or pay online before you go. It recommends paying by phone but no mobile signal at that location.

Love this walk of about 2.5 hours, along a beautiful river with colorful foliage surrounding a paved path all the way. We selected it for a church activity on the evening I'm reviewing, because we have some members in wheelchairs. It's perfect, with the exception of pay and display parking.

Nice walk to the dam from the location we were staying at. Good path ways ,easy for families with buggies/ prams children's bikes .

Round trip walk to the dam is about 3 miles. Fairly easy walk until you get closer to the dam, where there's quite the incline to get to the top. Pathway is concrete until the incline (then it's gravel/stone).
Dogs should be on the lead as there are lots of pigs loose along the way.
The car park had a refreshment truck and toilets.

The Avon Dam is a great location to start walking the Moors if you're just a beginner or adventurer. Small Car Park, however not bad at £4 a day. A must go in the all season, as is all of Dartmoor.

Plenty of parking, toilets at the start/end of the walk. The path is well paved and suitable for rugged mobility scooters and balance bikes. Last climb up to the dam is very rough and may not be suitable for all abilities. If you can get to the top the views are wonderful.

I cycled here today from Plymouth which took me roughly 2 hours. The Avon Dam is a beautiful structure. This is a great place for a family trip or picnic as there is lots of space to explore.

Avon Dam is a must to go and see. Beautiful scenery, lots of flowers and wildlife, dogs are allowed to go here. There were families having picnics in the sun and enjoyed playing in the streams. You need to wear good footwear for the walk. The views are breathtaking and its peaceful. Once we got up to the Dam we went for a paddle in the water which is very cold, when we visit again we are taking a picnic.
