Well cooked and tasted food. Service was friendly and fast. A nice bright restaurant not necessarily somewhere to linger but a great find. I like my chilli but some of the dips were on the fiery side. Great to be able to BYO.

Visited here before we went to watch my son's band The Rambling Club perform at Share The Sound Festival at The Loft round the corner. Early dinner at 5pm but it was busy and we were lucky to get a table so I suggest you book. Had panakton to drink which was delicious and my husband had ginger beer. Ordered prawn, ginger and coriander fritter and lamb ribs. Both had amazing flavours and good portions for starters. I had Prawn curry, loads of rice and good spice level without being overpowering. Husband had chicken and prawn magic bowl which was fab. All cooked fresh and served within 45mins. We will definitely be coming back, in fact I told my son the next time I visit him in Southampton I will be prioritising visiting this restaurant over seeing him (only joking😁). Other major plus for me was plenty of gluten and dairy free options, plus vegan and veggie if you need it. Staff were friendly too.

Absolutely gorgeous treat after visiting galleries with a close friend, service fast and efficient and the superb flavours bounced around after leaving feeling warm and loved. Think this is rapidly likely to be my go to place in town...

I’ve been to Lakaz Maman a few times but this is the first time I’ve remembered to do a review. I tend to stick to starters rather than mains as I prefer to try lots of different things. This time I tried the chicken wings which were cooked to perfection - crispy, with tender meat, just the right side of spicy & sweet. I probably couldn’t come here without ordering them! The deep fried squid was very aesthetically pleasing (see pic) in an interesting dry/spicy rub with a spiced mayo and pineapple salsa on the side. A great balance of texture and flavour. The Gato Piment are small crunchy spicy lentil balls served with a delicious brown yogurt style dip - they were delicious! I’m not usually a dessert person, but everything on the menu here is different and worth a try. The last time we came I had the ‘Yummy Bun’ which is a light bun filled with coconut ice cream and drizzled with salted caramel sauce. This time I tried the Milk Balls, which were meant to be infused with rose. I couldn’t taste rose but there was a gentle ginger flavour. The cauliflower poppers I preferred didn’t arrive but we had plenty to eat anyway. I pointed this out when the bill arrived and they were removed immediately without question. Overall a great dining experience

We were in Southampton for the day and had to brave the oddities of the Itchen toll bridge to get there but it was well worth it ( A bit of notice about having cash only and exact change on the bridge would be nice for non locals!). The food at Lakaz is super tasty and everything we tried was brilliant. Can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu. Really impressive menu as my partner is Coeliac but the gluten free choices were awesome. The staff were super friendly and also let us bring our dog. Definitely coming back. Loved it.

Despite working just around the corner this was my first experience of Lakaz and it was superb. The food was utterly delicious, the service was first rate and my colleague cleared her plates. Would recommend to any foodie.

We have enjoyed eating at Lakaz Maman so much on previous occasions that we thought it was time to take some of our family there They absolutely loved it too! It's always difficult to choose as there are so many tempting dishes on the menu Just wish we lived a bit nearer to Southampton!!

I always look forward to eating at Lakaz, and the food was up to the usual high standard. We get a selection of starters and sides (wings, ribs, prawns, octopus (a must for me), slaw, fries, salad etc.) to ensure a wide range of tasty plates. In fact I don't get a main course these days, there's always plenty to share, and the dipping sauces that come with them are great. Plus you can buy bottles of some of the sauces to take home. My wife had the upside down rice bowl with chicken and prawn, much enjoyed. One of our friends had the snapper curry, which she wasn't so keen on, but I think that's just a personal preference. We've been visiting Lakaz for several years, and hopefully many more to come!

Never had Mauritian food before but this was incredible. Delicious vegan options, had cauliflower poppers & island style wrap. Both dishes had so much flavour and was great value for money. Their own sauces were a lovely touch too.

This was my second visit. I went for lunch with family members. The service is great, not fussy or pushy, and always with a smile. The food is tasty and fresh and everyone at our table was happy with their choice. I will be both recommending and returning.

Popped in for lunch this afternoon. I was served by Kaya, who was charming. The decor is vibrant. The food is best described as South Asian soul food, warm, tasty and colourful! The pulled lamb burger was simply falling apart with sweet tenderness and the king prawn curry delicately spiced. I loved the handmade sauces on the table so you could customise your dish. Simply brilliant food at a very good price in a warm environment.

Went with a group of friends. Food was varied and all excellent. There non alchool drinks also excellent. One of our party needed alchool so quickly got some from local supermarket and was only charged a small corkage. The staff were very friendly. It's quite a small place so booking probably wise.

Thursday 9th May 2019. We came at the right time as it was virtually empty and was by the time we finished. My wife being a Mauritian and a chef as well had been so excited with her early birthday gift from me to bring her here. We were greeted by the general manager (Sharon). Very friendly. We decided to go with Gajaks as this would give us an aray of different flavours and styles of food. We picked 6 - gateaux piment, prawns, lamb ribs, octopus, samosas & crab. Not a scrap left on any plate. We particularly enjoyed the sauces that very much went with each dish. The octopus with its sauce went so well. It would have been the icing on the cake if we could have met Shelina herself but we picked the wrong day. I'm actually finishing this review in Dec 2019. We were so close to returning here as we stopped in Lymingiton in Dec 2019. We will return I'm sure. One of our favourite places to eat. Top net!!

Excellent food and service. A refreshing change from the norm. Mauritian street food served by a charming waitress.

Simple furniture, lovely happy people, bring your own wine and good simple food. I felt as if I was in a continental cafe probably on the shores of the Med. I wasn't I was in Bedford Place Southampton. The Mauritian food was a first for me. It was freshly cooked, spicy and GOOD. We left feeling very happy bunnies and not out of pocket. The surprise came via a phone call on the way home. It was the cafe telling me I'd left my scarf. How about that for service.

I have eaten here twice before with friends, I had an amazing time and was excited to take a new group of friends. Unfortunately and very sadly I was embarrassed. Our booking was the 8.45 sitting. Our initial reception was not very welcoming. We knew about the byo alcohol with corkage charged however on being very open with what we had brought the waitress was quite rude. When one of our group asked if she could have white rice instead of yellow rice one of us was asked if we’d swap our white rice for her yellow rice. One meal was forgotten (the one who wanted white rice) and when it came the yellow rice was on the plate making it very difficult to swap with the white rice dinner. When mentioned how difficult it would be the waitress just put her fingers on her temple and shook her head. Around 10.30 with some empty tables the staff started putting the chairs on the tables and at 11 all the lights were put on which we felt was extremely rude. It would have been nice if a member of staff advised us and the other 2 tables that they were due to closing. The food was very tasty and the other two waitresses were lovely.

Arrived at 8.45 and didn’t even get asked what we would like to drink until we asked 20 minutes later. Overall service was slow throughout. Octopus was lovely. Cauliflower poppers were hard inside and not cooked properly. Was a bit disappointed as been before and it was great.

Great service, very informative about the dishes, and lovely food. Bright interior, casual seating and Mocktails. The dipping sauce for the prawn dumplings was full of flavour.
