I was looking for a nice cafe to do some writing and stumbled upon this gem. Good prices and wonderful cakes (must try the apple tart with fresh cream). The place has a nice calm atmosphere and the staff were very warm and pleasant. Highly recommended.

If you like reading and like good coffee then here is this place. Spend a fair amount of time escaping my usual distractions to come here and read, a bonus is I get a nice coffee too! Service sometimes is slow and seating can be somewhat scarce but not everywhere is perfect and you forget all that once your heads in the book!

We popped in at 20past 3 and were told that because they close at 4 we had to have a takeaway up. How wasteful for the environment. I would have expected more from somewhere like this.

This is the last time I will visit this cafe , the service is terrible they seem to be continually understaffed. I was served a pot of tea and a tough Chelsea bun for £4.85 which seems excessive. The man in front of me had been charged twice for his coffee. I like to support smaller coffee shops but based on the service this is the last time I will give this one a go.

Honestly, is there any othe cafe that won’t serve your coffee in a china cup for the last hour of its opening time? I am not a coffee snob, but it tastes infinitely better in a china cup rather than a takeaway paper cup. What is wrong with your process that you can’t wash up after 5pm or do t have enough cups for the next morning? Won’t be wasting my time again.

I had a great time in this place. Such a shame the coffee machine wasn't working but I had a very nice hot chocolate and some paninis

The cafe was clean and the seating comfortable. The food was poor. I chose a prepacked cheese toastie. It was served just on a plate without any napkins or tray. One part was burnt. At nearly £4 I expect better.

The Cafe is located on the lower level of waterstones. You can sit outside and soak up the sun with a coffee overlooking a wonderful open air area. Well worth visiting.

Went to this cafe for a quick drink and bite to eat. Saw the vegan wrap, (falafel, humous, lettuce, tomato, chickpea and sweet chilli), absolutely yummy! They had 2 choices of vegan cakes, red velvet and oreo cake, we had a slice of the oreo cake which was huge! Again absolutely scrummy! This was on a busy Saturday afternoon. And even though busy the service was friendly and extremely accommodating. Would go there again.

Coffee great, nice Danish, but spoiled for me by the door onto the adjoining plaza not shutting automatically, letting the freezing January wind in. Spoke to a member of staff, whose only comment was “yes, it’s cold for us, too...”

Been here alot and usually it's been great. Love the cakes from Love Cake Bakery and the fruit tea. But...recently came here for an afternoon coffee with friends. Was shocked at how rude a member of staff serving customers was. Disgusting! We were spoken to in an incredible rude way, the face on the staff member scathing toward everyone...the audacity of people wanting to buy drinks from a cafe!!!! This woman was also rude to customers after us, including people with disabilities. Add to that a disorganised and slow service, we were left with less than stellar views of this cafe. Disappointing as it has previously been so nice.

I used to come in especially for a bubble and squeak until they stopped serving them in favour of boring door stopper sandwiches. They were really tasty and made the Southampton cafe feel different and special compared to all the others. And seeing as i can't go to Waterstones without leaving with a book... or two, they've lost double the custom from me. Saying that the cake is really nice still and they make a good hot chocolate. Better than going to Costa. But I'd have rated it a 5 had they not discontinued the squeaks.

First food stop in Southampton. We had the hummus and bread and it was a very generous portion. We also had a very nice slice of cake.Nice service and good value for money. Having tea and cake in a bookstore, what's not to like?

When this place first opened it was a welcome addition to the cafe scene. However I the past couple of months it has gone downhill and today's visit will be my last. It always seems to be understaffed which results in long waits and uncleared tables. The tea pot was chipped as was one of the cups and to leave a line of customers to empty the dishwasher is baffling! The tea by the mug option has gone and the once choice of cakes for coeliacs has been reduced to the obligatory caramel shortcake and not a very nice one! They really do need to up their game if they wish to compete against the corporate giants.

When this place opened they had plenty of gluten free stuff on the menu, the coffee wasn't great but the gluten free options made it worth going. The past three visits there's been no savoury option for gf (not even just toast) and only one cake. They said it was due to running out (on the cakes) but it's been three times in a row. On top of this my friend got hummus and falafal and the falafals were hard and unpleasant and the pitta over toasted.

A nice little coffee stop on the bottom floor of Waterstones in West quay. Staff are friendly and the cake from the local Love Cake bakery in Southampton is absolutely lovely.

I stopped off for a coffee during a shopping trip with friends & was pleasantly surprised. I am not a vegan but cannot have cows milk. As an alternative they offer soya or almond milk, so I had an almond milk latte. There was also a vegan red velvet cake. I cannot usually eat cake when I am out as it contains milk so this was an unexpected treat. As it was a sunny day we were able to sit outside. I will definitely go back.
