I took my wife to the Alma for a roast dinner after being recommended by a relative who went there the week before. It was our first time back there in about 40 years, and we had loverly evenig. We received very good service from Ben, who advised us on the carvery options. I found options to be generous and struggled to eat it all. We also brought drinks and ordered the chocolate fudge cake. I found all the staff very professional, and Mille behind the bar was friendly. Will definitely return their.

Had a lovely anniversary meal here staff are very polite especially Ben Young. Recommended a new dessert Merry Berry Sundae which was divine. Definitely a must. Always come here.

We come to the Alma at least once a month for breakfast with our Motorbike group as the staff are lovely and welcoming. Some places look down on bikers and treat us badly but not here at the Alma. Last time we came for breakfast and we saw the carvery and thought we would come for lunch. The food is delicious and we always have a good time

Always have a great meal and the team is so friendly. Libby and Ben go out of their way to welcome us . We go most Sundays the roast today we are having fish and chips.

Another lunchtime visit, August 2022 but with different members of my family..
Another very enjoyable time.
Not as busy as previous visits, but service and food just as good.
Menus are very good including a children's menu, several choices which should suit most people.
Lunchtime visit. ( March 2022)
On this occasion we had main courses only.
Food very good and hot.
Very good service at the bar and the food brought to our table.

We like going to the Alma, the food is great, the carvery is delicious and great value which makes it affordable for us, and it's a very family orientated pub. The staff are very friendly and good at their jobs, the service is quick and efficient. My second visit in a week! Ben served us with a friendly professional very approachable service. I would recommend visiting this pub.

Had a lovely time at the Alma with my partner , atmosphere friendly and welcoming . Service from Ella ,Kacy, Ben , kane Daniel and hazel was excellent, pizzas were absolutely fantastic best pizzas I've had ever cooked by kane and amazing chicken wings cooked by Dan , thank you all for a wonderful lunch 😊.

Excellent service from all of the staff, so it would be rude to mention individuals by name. Very fast food and drinks service. Food (veggie and traditional carveries) were excellent. We sat in the garden area as we had brought our dog. Would definitely recommend.

Great experience! I have a severe peanut allergy and the staff were great catering for me. Particularly Ben, who was brilliant. The vegan burger that I had was delicious. Will definitely be back.

Always loved the Alma. However, I visited twice in 4 weeks over August / September, and both times, they were not doing pizzas and Wraps (which make up a significant part of the menu). Quite disappointed to find the menu so limited. Of course I'll be back, I've been frequenting the Alma for 30 years. I just hope Stonehouse sort it out and offer the whole menu consistently!

Had a wonderful birthday dinner at the Alma Tonight. Ben and Kym were brilliant and made me feel very special, with a big effort on my pudding!!
Thank you very much! X

Carverys all good all staff very helpful few glitches with payments on the ordering with the QR code at the table on some desserts and drinks says payment not confirmed when it had been taken ,Apple Pay but double payment was immediately flagged up by staff when the drinks were brought to the table followed by money being brought back to the table. Dessert ordered wasn’t available . So Ben was very helpful and brought back a dessert because we couldn’t decide which other one we wanted .

Good Sunday roast at a still reasonable cost, grateful it exists in these tough times & helpful friendly vibe from the staff.
A bit tight on meat but appreciate the upsale option available & a huge queue nearly out of the door but popular time I think. Serving counter is the wrong way around for people returning to their seats as have to walk through the queuing punters carrying your food.
None of the above really spoils the good food in a country style pub.

The food & service here is top notch, Sunday roasts are so good, carvery with fresh & well cooked ingredients, pizzas are stone baked & huge! Recommended to book in advance as Sundays are very busy.

We had a lovely carvery with drinks and dessert food was great as always as we've been many times and will keep returning Ben and Kane are very polite and give a great atmosphere checking everything was all OK etc. Nice meal out hassle free 5*

I gave a 2* as the decor is quite nice but the fly situation should be addressed as a matter of urgency before someone gets really ill. Regarding the food - our starters arrived then we realised we were without cutlery so although the request was made it never appeared so I took it from an unoccupied table. We chose half roast chicken and the pie. My husband collected his chicken - well skin and bones - and was gone forever having waited for the server to return from God knows where. My visit was the same - no one in attendance - when he eventually did appear he had to fetch an industrial strength slice to remove the pie. I refused the first slice as it was unfit to eat - have to say the second slice was only marginally better - pastry could not be cut with a knife and the filling consisted of one small piece of meat amid some dried up gravy. I won't describe the vegetables - I settled for mashed potatoes and baked beans. When our plates were collected it was pretty obvious from the waste that things weren't great so we were offered a free dessert - I would have preferred a refund and run for the car. However the strawberry eton mess arrived consisting of 3 tinned strawberries, a very small amount of meringue and a sundae glass of synthetic cream. My advice to anyone is DO NOT EAT HERE. The staff have a poor work ethic and are in need of some serious customer service and hygiene training.

Came to the Alma for lunch with the family today. After having to find our own reserved table as there wasn't a waitress in sight we all ordered. Whilst family members were struggling with the incredibly dry Turkey and stuffing and cauliflower cheese without the cheese we sat waiting for pizza. Once we had all eaten we decided to take advantage of the garden as we had young children with us in the hope that the facilities were more acceptable than the food!! Whilst there we decided to order some desserts and unsurprisingly this was a timing disaster too with one dessert not being served at all. My impressions of the revamped Alma are not good and will not be visiting again. Have a serious think before coming here and maybe grab a MacDonalds instead!!!!

I ordered a skinny pizza while my partner and step son had a carvery. I understand that the pizza would take a bit longer but when it comes to 25minutes later from when my partner had sat down to eat his carvery is too long.
I asked the waitress how long my pizza would be only to find out it was burnt and only just putting a fresh one in. No one had told me. Both my partner and step son had finished eating their main and deserts by time I received my main.
To top it off I had to go and collect my pizza from the counter while the same waitress just stood by it, not offering to bring it to me knowing the situation. I think the customer service was appalling and I still haven't received a proper apology. It has Really put me off going back, a shame really as the food was nice.

Tonight we booked a table for 6 for my brother in laws birthday. Luckily we found the table with our name as there was no staff around to show us.....that was just the beginning. We placed our orders 4 carvery and 2 ham and eggs (no pineapple at 7.10pm). We were told to go to the counter in 10 mins the eggs would be there. We did so and no eggs we asked the server who went off and came back 5 mins later and said they won't be long.....another 10 mins passed and I asked again..off he went and came back and said they were cooking ......i asked for a third time and after 45 mins of waiting they appeared I was offered no apology. My ham was then carved and thrown onto the plate, I advised I wasn't happy as it was the very end of the roast and would like a fresh one I was told it had to be finished first. I again said I was not accepting it to which the server stomped off kicking the kitchen door en route. He reappeared some 10 mins later with a new one carved it and again threw onto my plate bursting my eggs in the process by this time I had had enough took my plate and sat down. My husband and I sat eating our dinner on our own as the other 4 members of our party had finished by the time we got there. The food was edible. The vegetables looked like they had seen better days, no greens and the people behind us had to wait 15 mins to get their yorkshire puddings, the salad bar was non exixstent and had not been topped up or tidyed and was completely unappealing. We then decided who would have pudding etc to which my sister in law went to order then promptly returned to say due to a back log in the KITCHEN no more orders were being taken at present. This is a Friday night and the restaurant was not particularly busy. This was the last straw our evening had ben farcical enough. What was supposed to be a nice night celebrating a birthday ended up with us stopping on our way home to get a pudding. The place has been done up which it desperately needed. But the staff looked as though they didn't want to be there there seemed to be no management direction in place it was appalling.

Absolutely dismal, staff looked unhappy and unenthusiastic. Meat was ok, but all the vegetables were dry and cold or undercooked. Baked beans, mushy peas etc looked like they had been sat there all day....certainly won't be visiting again!!

we regularly meet for a family lunch and decided to try the new refurbished Alma, that was our first big mistake. Ordering the carvery was our second, dried out poultry and withered veg was not our expectation of this once great eatery!! Portion size of the menu dishes left a lot to be desired as well as a half empty stomach!! Desserts were no better and the total atmosphere was that of complete carnage. The tables weren't cleared of glasses and it wasn't as if the waiter/waitresses were busy as u had to get virtually everything yourself. We were left disappointed and hungry and only wishing the place had stayed closed down!

I went for a family meal, and im not one for socialising with the family, however the layout was refreshing and a family joint, yet still up beat. Then the meal was amazing, i couldnt eat it all in the benefical way, as i got to take the rest home for whenever. Not to mention as ig you cant tell i had a lovely meal and a lovely time.

Found staff helpful and friendly no problems getting seated only criticism some veg a little dry happy to visit again

2nd visit thought I would give them another chance . Big mistake! Tried again to order a veggie burger yet again they didn't have any so just ordered a side with salad and chips . Can't go wrong surely? Oh yes they can! Chips were like mush! Lettuce missing from the salad bar! Cucumber dry and shrivelled! Croutons soggy! Will not be giving them any more chances

My husband and I stopped in for lunch yesterday (Sunday) we decided on a carvery, there was a short wait in the queue but not bad.The selection of meats and vegetables were good overall and very tasty the thing that let it down was the plates weren't hot and neither was the food, also lacking in any service around the tables.
