Cheese On Coast

Gorgeous, quaint, little Delicattessen, brimming with atmosphere and varied, local produce. The two ladies behind the counter were informative and super friendly and my partner and I were very impressed indeed by the food we ended up buying. A few beautiful smoked cheeses, a local pickle and some Cornish salami. Everything was stunning. Highly, highly recommended.

A week in Cornwall and trying Cornish Kern was on the wishlist (2018 World Cheese Champion). It's so hard to find. This as explained to me by the chap behind the cheese counter at Rick Steins deli in Padstow. Well if the food king of Cornwall couldn't get any, what chance did I have. Well walking down the street in St Ives this evening I stumbled across this wonderful shop, closed unfortunately, but I saw a lady (who turned out to be Claire the owner) in the window. I tapped the glass, chancing my arm, and asked if she had any Kern. She came to the door and tips me they did have some but they had closed up and steralised the counter now. They didn't have any individual bits cut, but were open at 10am the next day. I explained we were staying in Port Isaac and wouldn't be back. I made my way down the street and suddenly she ran down after me. She said her and her colleague couldn't forgive themselves if I didn't get to taste this wonderful cheese, so opened especially for me, meaning steralising again after I left. I've enjoyed the Kern very much and the brie i bought was excellent too. Cherish this shop if you live near, as a food champion like Claire is a very special thing.
