You can’t fault this place.
I popped through for a 1 night stay, just to visit the place that shares my name, with two friends.
We were warmly welcomed. We were escorted to our room and shown the facilities. A table was reserved for us, with out request, for dinner.
We had a chance to sit back and observe the staff. The crew operated as a team and worked well together. This resulted in exceptional, speedy service.
I had the pleasure of meeting the owner for breakfast the next morning. What a bright bubbly and friendly lady she is.
It really is a shame I am not spending more time here.
Having a beer in the evening and speaking with the staff, you get the feel that this crew is made up of genuine, down to earth people. I had a great chat to them about the local area and other Stackpole’s who may have come through. A really great bunch of people, the type of people I would have loved to have met on the other side of the bar and shared a pint or two with.
The facilities were exceptional. Tidy, clean and modern accomodation. The shower was brilliant, instant hot water and plenty of room. The exceptional room was complimented with cherry to drink at your leisure and some other little nibbles as well.
The restaurant and pub had all of the characteristics you would expect from a pub of this age. It was just a delight to dine at such a venue.
The toilets, a frequent and common issue at many other venues, were spotless. Given how busy this place was on this particular evening, it is a testament to the crews professionalism and pride in their venue.
I want to make it clear, this final piece of my review is not a case of leaving the best until last. The experience as a whole is something I am going to remember for the rest of my life.
The food. For a started I selected the salmon with beetroot pure’. This was Devine. The salmon was fresh and tender, it melted in my mouth.
For a main I selected the Rib eye, cooked rare. Being a char-grilled steak, I was rewarded with perfection. Only the most outer edge had that crispy char grilled flavour while the inside was a perfect pink, but not translucent. It was so incredibly tender. My friends also had steaks. I imagine to someone on the outside, us loud Australians having a good time, would have been noticeable the sudden drop in volume as we became fixated on just how good the meal we were consuming was.
We washed this down with a bottle of Argentinian Malbec, only someone that knows exactly how to pair a steak with a wine would serve such a wine on their menu. Just heaven!
Some time latter, I managed to muscle up the room to have a dessert. A simple yet delicious (what we call in Australia) Sticky date pudding.
The three of us are leaving Stackpole inn this morning and have spoken frequently of our most positive experience.
The only negative, to come back we have to travel 16500ks.
Please open up one in Australia .
Thanks so very much to the crew for what is an unforgettable experience.
Absolutley loved our stay at the Stackpole. We stayed in the family room with two little ones. It had everything you need for a family stay. The room was so quiet and peaceful, and spotlessly clean. It was also very cosy and warm. The sherry and chocolates for a night cap were a lovely treat. There was a vast selection of tea and coffee , even fresh ground coffee. We went for an evening meal which was out of this world. We had the 20oz ribeye sharing steak which was cooked perfectly and a total treat. Our little ones had fish and chips which was cooked off menu which they really enjoyed. The atmosphere in the restaurant was fantastic. The breakfast was amazing with so much choice - full english , omlette and smoked salmon and scrambled egg to name a few. There was also a table with cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit and toast - our little ones loved this. Overall 5/5 such a great mini break.
The walkers lunch I had yesterday afternoon along with my good friend, was everything I had thought it would be...
Left us stuffed. Quick and efficient service, and the best food to table...all serving staff were good, but particularly the young lad at the bar who served us tea who had a brief chat with us..especially as I said non-walkers ,walkers lunch whilst ordering...
Love to visit again, while down in the area...as we are from a village between Llanelli and Carmarthen.
Great to finally call in to this very pretty place. Thanks all
