Booked last minute for the restaurant as we needed a change from where we were staying. Very accommodating to get us in with 20 mins notice.
The food was fantastic, I had the Lamb Shoulder and my wife had the Beef. Both were cooked and presented to perfection. I also tried the Apple and Cinnamon crumble with custard. Yummy. The staff in the bar and restaurant took time out to speak to us and were very very friendly. One of the best places I’ve eaten at in a long time. Highly recommended. Wish we’d found the place earlier on a weekend break away.
Ate here 4 nights ago. The lamb dish and the accompanying red wine jus was one of the best dine out experiences I’ve had. The cooking was just exquisite. The dessert was a 10/10 as well.
Pity the front of house staff refused our request of having the fire on in our dining area. Said there was already one on next door, but we weren’t sitting next door, were we. It was a cold night and the hospitality fell a little short for me.
We shared a fantastic Sunday lunch here. Brilliant staff excellent food. Great atmosphere.
I've dined here whenever in the area over the last 36 years and never been disappointed.

We called in after a visit to Kielder Observatory, and got a warm welcome, great service and a piping hot, great tasting meal. Given 6 of us arrived without prior booking close to the kitchen closing, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area in need of good pub grub.
Problem in kitchen on first night limited the menu but this was resolved by second night. Is the only reason 5 stars was not given.

In mid-October my son and I arrived in time for a delicious sunday lunch and handpulled pint. The staff were very welcoming, with good humour and it was easy to build up a friendly rapport (if you wished).
The twin room, in a garden courtyard linked to the pub building, was pleasantly decorated, tv and usual hot drinks making items, beds smart and comfortable, with a very decent en suite bathroom with a good shower.
We were due to be at the Kielder Observatory for an 8 till late Astro Photography session so the keyed outdoor access to our room meant a quiet, trouble free return.
Breakfast in the morning was spot on and as ordered the previous evening. Bright, cheery service.
Would certainly stay again!!
Really lovely place.
Food was absolutely fantastic. In the evening, a great selection on the menu. Although I didn't try it everyone who had the pickled herring to start was waxing lyrical. Believe it does cater for vegans but wasn't on the main menu and I always feel bad asking, but garden salad etc. Was lovely.
Rooms were really nice and recently re-furnished with a good solid and large bed.
Bathrooms are a little tired and not the greatest shower was probably the only downside of the whole stay. Location is just lovely and on a clear night we had a great view of the sky.
Had friends in the cottage as well which was also really good. All round certainly planning on coming back and would recommend.
Outstanding. Loved this pub! Can't remember a better evening in a pub for many many years. Food excellent. Staff excellent. Friendly locals. The roaming cabaret act called Clive was excellent. A really lovely evening - thanks!
Excellent place to stay for cyclists doing the Reivers Cycle route, and moped riders! They catered for 14 cyclists without issues. Fantastic food, plush rooms and service was faultless. Thanks Mel.
