Absolutely tremendous! Definitely take the time to visit The Crown! Brilliant food in a gorgeous quintessentially English countryside setting.
The food at The Crown was absolutely the icing on the cake, each of the dishes we tried was impeccable and reasonably priced. If you're lucky enough to visit whilst the weather is still good - you need to sit in the outside area, it has enough plants to be a botanical garden!
They also have a cute teepee at the back of their plot, which would be perfect for an evening drink/snack.
Very comfortable pub, serves good food and excellent wine selection. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and prices very reasonable. The pub adheres to all the covid rules and are constantly cleaning tables. On colder days they have an open fire and there is a good atmosphere.
Our family went to the Crown and had starters, main course and desert. The food is beautifully served and tastes amazing. The starters were lovely appetisers, invigorating our senses. The main fish and seafood was very fresh, light and flavoursome. The steak was done medium rare and was possibly the most tender and tasty steak I’ve ever had. We shared the desert which had a smoked orange flavoured white chocolate. It was utterly sumptuous with delicate flavours. It’s very worth every visit and we look forward to our next opportunity to visit there again.
Great Menu, reasonably priced, well presented, & delicious quality.
Good Wine List. Tranquil setting, for in or outside dining - ( summer time ,an absolute must as the garden seating trails on & on set against beautiful willow tree surroundings)
Fantastic efficient service from all staff- I cannot wait to return.
*Covid Secure, all necessary precautions in place, and still a truly great dining experience.
Highly recommend :)
Having visited numerous times for lunch, the terrace is lovely in the sun, we decided this time to book an overnight stay for a special occasion. We booked the last available room, which was a Standard Room. There was plenty of space with two comfortable chairs for relaxing. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was excellent. Tea making facilities were available in the room, with a small jug of fresh milk in the fridge, along with bottled water.
There is also a small lounge area in the reception.
All of the staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. At dinner nothing was rushed, and it made for a very relaxing evening.
We will certainly stay again.
Don't be misled by the Google description of "Bar" - 14mi - Colchester.
This is in fact an excellent restaurant and bar with very nice rooms in Stoke By Nayland, which is North of Colchester.
Having stayed with a friend for a birthday meal recently I would like to say how much of a lovely evening we had. The food and service was great in particular a young lady with long brown hair who served us and to the lovely blonde receptionist in the crown hotel, very professional and polite. All in all a great experience
