Visiting this area and The Tradesmans Arms was recommended to us. We were not disappointed the food was delicious especially my homemade pie!. The service was great and both the chef and barmaid were really friendly. Cosy pub with a welcoming atmosphere heartily recommend.
Kathy always has an excellent menu that is fairly priced and top quality. Happy to have dogs with you at the table if you eat in the bar area.
Have eaten there many times and stayed once, excellent food and nice fresh veg. Stayed once and were made very welcome, the dog is made welcome with plenty of gravy bones provided so he’s happy.
Nice place. Only had a drink here. Will have to try the food. Looked clean and tidy and barman seemed nice
We have just finished a 2 course lunch here and this place definitely didn’t disappoint. The roast lamb and beef were delicious and as for the dessert 😍The staff couldn’t have been anymore helpful and polite, we were made to feel totally welcome. The young girls who waited our table were very professional and polite, well done girls, excellent job. It’s a lovely place where dogs are welcome too and they have a nice beer garden with beautiful views. I would definitely return here, it had the lot and we have come away every happy full customers. Thank you.
This wonderful pub features in the Alastair Sawday pub guide. Arriving today for lunch we had a warm welcome but sadly kitchen was closed as the bar staff hadn't turned up. Score 5 for the welcome, lovely cosy bar area and other dining area to the left. A proper pub which had the right feel as soon as we walked in. Be assured we shall be back! Doggy friendly.
Came in on a rainy monday lunchtime but sadly no food cooked on a monday. None the less very dog friendly & welcoming pub with the dogs being offered water to accompany my pint of Red Devon cider
Gareth the head chef and his assistant looked after us so well. Everyone (6 of us + Seb the Tifosi dog) was delighted with the food and drink and the service. Starters: scallops & squid, pate, whitebait. Mains were crab, steak pies, venison, hake and duck. Portions were a nice size and all beautifully cooked. The Otter and Tribute beers were in excellent condition and they also do good coffee. Oh, and the wines (red and white) were very good too and no I wasn't driving!. I wish this was our local. It's also in a very nice location. Go there - now!
There are some good pubs in the area (South Hams), but for all-round care and attention to detail the owner-managers deserve gold. You are in good hands with this husband and wife team. They know how to run an attractive and welcoming hostelry. The food is a significant stride ahead of the other local contenders - and that is not to say the others are wanting. We hope to return soon.
We visited here for Sunday lunch some time ago and quite frankly it was poor, although I did not write a review at the time, if I had it would have only been two stars.
Having decided to try it again for Sunday lunch we were pleasantly surprised, the quality of both the beef and the lamb was much improved as were the vegetables. Service was both friendly and efficient.
The decor is tasteful and a Pub atmosphere has been maintained without being one of those ghastly gastro pubs which all look the same.
Visited the Tradesman for an evening meal. Excellent dinner, excellent food and great service., wonderful location.
Stayed 2 nights B&B + one dinner. The staff are real stars. Most cheerful, competent and helpful. Gareth the chef is outstanding. Conventional pub food but perfectly cooked and good quality. The locals gather in force after work. Services and the rooms are modernised to blend with the unique ambience of this small village which has not changed very much in 100 years. No street lights and nightly silence except for owls. Placed well between Salcombe and Dartmouth but beware following your satellite navigator. Miles & miles of lanes with grass growing in the middle!
Lovely traditional pub/restaurant
Great service just remember food cooked to order so might be a wait when busy
Food was delicious
Nice Rioja & Pinot
Would definitely return
My husband myself and brother and sister in law went for a meal on Saturday night, as always very friendly staff and fab food. It's no wonder it gets booked up.
Amazing evening with my family. We stopped off before a few days ago for a drink as we drove past the pub. The service then was very welcoming and we felt very welcomed, the beer was a very good pint.. we traveled back today to have dinner at the Trademan’s arms
The service the food and beer was the best we had to date in Devon:-) My family and I was so pleased we have booked again for tomorrow night!
We are looking forward to another exceptional evening.
I highly recommend the Trademan’s arms.
In all our time eating and drinking out myself and family has never enjoyed the
Food (all three course) and the
Massive 5 Star👍👍
We were so happy to have stumbled on this gem of a pub.
We visited this pub on Friday 23rd August for lunch. We had the best crab sandwiches and the honeycomb ice-cream is simple gorgeous. We liked the food so much we booked to have Christmas lunch. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Would highly recommend a visit. We will be back again soon.
Superb pub. With exceptionally friendly landlady and staff. Went out of their way to accommodate us. Food was great the burger was perfectly cooked with super chunky chips.
Booked a table for 6 people. Service was excellent. Staff couldn’t do enough to help. Really nice food - the steak and ale pie was particularly good. Kids enjoyed their burger and sausages.
