We came here to try something new, and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered a shoulder of lamb, which was nice and tender. The wine/mint sauce it was in, was nice. Along with the mash potato and vegetables. My partner had half roast chicken in a lovely garlic type sauce. Portion size was very good and the prices reasonable. Its was nice to go to an independent restaurant and be impressed.
The French hen was chosen to host a meeting of a group of retired Officers.
It proved to be a very good choice for 3 reasons.
Location was relatively good for all of those attending the re-union.
The staff were brilliant, friendly, helpful, and very accommodating.
Food and drink was very reasonably priced.
I should add that the locals were also friendly and approachable.
Would we use the French hen again, yes most definitely.
This pub is such a lovely family friendly pub, with amazing staff who give the best service!
They are always welcoming, pleasant and polite and have smiles on their faces.
The pork belly for the Sunday lunch is the best, I loved my meal.
All around brilliant service, and a relaxed atmosphere, even if you just want to go for some drinks with some friends in the beautiful beer garden they have! 😁

We met for a family meal and we were truly looked after. The food was great, with generous portions and lovely service.
An excellent place to have some food. Went for mothers day with mum dad sister and her partner.
We had the sunday lunch that was very tasty for sure and there was plenty of food for us all.
Only criticism would be the stuffing was a little salty.
The majority of the vegetables come separately and though they look like there is not enough for you all you will find that there is more than enough to share.
I would highly recommend the French Hen as a place to have food.
The desserts were also a good size too.
There are plenty of drinks to choose from including a few good Ales
The staff work hard are very polite as well as friendly too and serve you pretty quickly too.
Excellent visit and I am sure I will return.
Met family here for a drink it's such a lovely pub didn't eat myself but family said 10 out of 10 and food and it did look and smell amazing... Defo recommend...

Visited on Bank holiday Monday, it wasn't busy when we arrived so I was surprised we had exactly 1 hr wait for our food. I don't know if there was a problem in the kitchen.
But when the food did arrive it was excellent, highly recommend, will go again..
French Hen has always been my favourite place for Sunday dinner. Portions are vast everything cooked perfectly. Only let down Dauphinois potatoes are no longer server
Do love the rustic charm of the place but could do with a spruce up, especially the bathrooms.
Popped here for a bite to eat at lunch time. Had a lovely steak and onion baguette and beer moretti on tap. Very old traditional pub style.
