The pub has a warm, family friendly atmosphere. Service was prompt but we never felt rushed. Portions were extremely generous, even the smaller sizes on offer were substantial platefuls. I didn't have the Carvery option but my fellow diners indicated it was well cooked, although the variety vegetables were lacking.
Good friendly pub and man size food portions they made us all very welcome all very clean and really friendly staff.
We had our engagement party at The Check Inn in Wroughton in October and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue to have it! The venue itself had plenty of space for us plus our 30 guests, was accommodating to children and accessible for our elder relatives! Drinks were continuously flowing from the bar there was never a wait! We were able to bring our own food and decorations and had the best night we could have asked for! And Luke and Anna were fantastic! From the moment we went in to enquire about having our party there, to picking up our cars the morning after they were both extremely lovely and so welcoming and helpful they made the whole experience super easy and it was exactly the engagement party we wanted! I would 1000% recommend this great venue ran by these fabulous people for any gatherings or for a chat down a lovely family friendly pub! We would certainly love to use them again in the future!!!
Haven't been to this place since I was a child with my parents. Obviously under new management now and Recently had 2 trips there and can honestly say it's very refreshing to be able to go to a "classic" pub. No fancy food, not full of roughens. Just a place with a decent pint and decent owners. Place is very, very clean. Maybe get some thickly sliced cheese and onion rolls on the bar on certain days? But as for hot food and restaurant style food, don't bother. Keep it as it is, it's refreshingly simple.
The Check Inn has reopened under new management, Luke and Annie who are very welcoming. It's now a free house and if they haven't got what you like to drink they're willing to listen and see if they can buy in the beers/lagers you like.
The pub is clean and welcoming, there's a friendly atmosphere and great spaces inside and out. It's a busy pub with a relaxed feel with lots of people engaging in friendly conversation. Theres also a large car park at the back. I'd recommend a visit.
It would be great to see a couple of large plates with cheese and onion/ham and mustard rolls for sale on the bar.
Apart from that its well worth a visit.
New owners have made a good first impression in me. First pint there was perfectly kept and they have hooked up a sound system that tastefully blocks out the sound of M4. The front garden is attractive and table service is spot on.
Always loved this pub, ever since it became a stop of when finishing a bike ride on the downs. I'm hopeful the new owners make a success of it.😊 ( see if they bring out a menu for the elusive 5th star I guess)
We tend to pop in the The Check for occasional drinks, as it is dog friendly and has a lovely fireplace. The beer is pretty good and reasonably priced, and the pub has plenty of character. It has a decent beer garden, the only negative with that is proximity to the motorway, which you can hear clearly, although you cannot see it.
The food is very tasty and reasonably priced. I really enjoyed the yellow curry.
We stopped here half way through our travel plans. We stayed in our camper in the car park. Called in for a drink and game of pool. They were doing a music quiz which was entertaining. The locals were friendly and welcoming..
This pub has recently changed hands (over the new year) and no longer serves Thai food. The food here was awesome but the new menu looks like a typical pub food menu but I feel there are better options out there. Has a pub quiz every other Tuesday as well which can be hit and miss (well, our performance is very hit and miss, anyway!!)
