The Gate Hangs Well

Popped in for lunch and was very happy we did. All the food was delicious, great portion size. The menu is slightly limited in the number of items but what there is is varied. (Classic pub food). What is and isn’t, or could be made gluten free is slightly unclear on the menu (Saw more acronyms than were in the key, GF, GFA, GFR?) but when we asked the waitress she checked very quickly for us. There were only three tables in when we visited( including us) so the one waitress was able to handle working the bar as well whilst keeping up good table service. Therefore I can’t comment on how service goes during busy times. Overall we really enjoyed our lunch and I’m sure we will be back.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to The Gate Hangs Well & particularly Tillie for helping us get out of a forgot the elf situation! We went to the pub to capture the elf having been late to arrive because he got drunk in the pub. Tillie agreed to be in the pictures! All the team were really welcoming & the fires were on so it was warm and welcoming. We also order the Gyro’s which were lovely and great value. Definitely recommend.

Didn't have food just went for drinks.. Lovely atmosphere, super dog friendly and polite. The staff joked that they actually prefer dogs too people lol, me too! 😆 They also gave our little dog some treats when we first got to the bar, and made a fuss of her, lovely touch.. Garden is super spacious and has lots of nice trees and grass, there is a stream you can sit by. And there are some kids toys dotted about, and swings for children to play with too. There is a little "Dog bar" where you can poor out some water in a bowl too. And it's the first place I've been to that actually has things on the food menu you can buy for your dog, even doggy beer! And dog ice lollies.. Wow they really do love dogs here don't they! 😃 I heard they get busy with Sunday dinners so maybe an idea to pre-book if you want food etc? Lastly for the lovely location, the prices are very reasonable too. Love this place, we will definitely be back again soon!

A dog friendly pub with a very warm atmosphere in winter thanks to good food and an open fire! The meal was delicious...my friend has a roast and I enjoyed a mushroom and mash dish. There is a nice garden which would be lovely in summer. Will go again then as really enjoy seeing the birds in the area around the pub. Lovely friendly staff, plenty of parking too.

This pub is continuing its steps to remain covid secure currently, especially if you alert them of your preferences. Good spacing in seating areas in and out, table services available with ordering online also available. Huge outdoor space. Limited menu currently, occasional pop up kitchens also, but they do do good gluten free pizza! Friendly staff, plenty of parking, Riverside setting in one outdoor area. Dog drinks readily available! Edited a year on after another visit. Food has gone downhill sadly. The gf pizza came out uncut, I couldn't cut it with a knife it was so hard. The tomato sauce on it was not good, very sweet, and the meals were sadly not very hot, even though we were the only ones eating. Bench seat stained, wallpaper falling off, but staff were lovely.

What a great day we had, sat under very large tree near lake/canal ! Plenty room for our dogs to roam near us on leads. Under shade as was hot day. Meal was fabulous, hot, tasty, plenty of it. Drinks were nice cold. Young guy, not long been member staff was really friendly, made us feel very welcome, especially our dogs, they are our family so that was very nice of him. Definitely go again.
