Lovely little village pub with some very tasty food one of the best steaks . Nice surroundings very friendly staff plenty parking and beer garden for kids . Would recommend this village pub
Lovely place to go for a meal, very pleasant both inside and out when the weather's nice that is. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food is really delicious and not to badly priced either. You are not rushed between courses which makes a tremendous difference for going out for a meal. Will definetly go back when I'm in the area again.
We were recommended by a friend and we weren’t disappointed… what a lovely place, We had 2 people in our party who had allergies and they were so accommodating.
It was very busy at first so took a while to get seated, we were in the conservatory and it was a little chilly, but the seating and decor was great. The cleanliness was very good.
The food was delicious when it came, my only criticism was the time we waited. Xx

Nice place, lovely food but expensive. We pre ordered as there were about 20 of us and a meal had been missed. They said we'd left it off the order ( Which is possible) but why not double check before the food is bought out as one of our party had to wait with no food and everyone had finished by the time his came out. It could have been avoided.

We visited on the 16/06/2023. We drove in to a good sized car park, the exterior of the pub looks fantastic and very welcoming, the atmosphere felt great from the moment we got out of the car. When we got through the front entrance we were met by friendly staff, we booked online and yes the online booking was fast and easy, once we gave our name we were given a table next to a large window that looked out to the rear garden and children’s play area, after a couple of minutes the server came and took our drinks and food order, my wife had a Mojito and I had a Pepsi, the drinks came quickly, the Pepsi and the mojito were great, the food arrived about 15 minutes later, we ordered BBQ spare ribs and 8oz rump steak see pics, the food was excellently presented and the potion sizes were huge so great value for money, the quality and taste of the food was excellent… oh yes and the facilities were good, we will definitely be returning. I would definitely recommend visiting the Gate, as the drinks, food and atmosphere are fantastic, however, it is well worth booking in advanced to avoid disappointment as they do get very busy.
Visited for Sunday lunch before going to Matlock Bath. Greeted by friendly and efficient young staff. Nice outside area with good views over countryside.
Interior very nice, spacious and light with good choice of tables to suit group sizes.
Great choice of food - not just roasts on a Sunday so will suit all tastes and appetites.
Good selection of wines, beers and soft drinks. Plenty of parking in car park - all off road so no hassle.
Excellent place to bring children. High quality children’s menu, and huge American sundaes. Great steaks for adults and grilled skewers, well-seasoned meat, and hand made sauces. A bit of a wait for both our courses but the food was worth waiting for and the service very friendly. The atmosphere was warm and cosy at all times - cinnamon spiced crumble on a cold evening. Perfect.
Absolutely love eating and drinking here. It's so warm and friendly and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious and there is always a good menu. The service is brilliant and you never wait long once ordering. The service is quite quick. The beer garden is lovely in the summer and its nice they have a small play area for children to play too. Love coming here.
First time visiting here after we were told it was a lovely place to eat.
From the moment we walked in the staff were friendly and inviting. The pub is a relaxing comfortable place to chill talk and eat.
The food was brought out quickly but was hot fresh and delicious. We had a stone baked pizza with cheesy chips. They have a large selection of food to suit everyone's taste.
We finished with the Eton mess which was also delicious.
We would highly recommend this place to anyone.

What a gem of the Derbyshire dales, googled for a pub with a child's play area, as this seems to be a rarity, not only does it have a fairly decent play area it's a very well laid out and modern restaurant/ pub. I had no intention to eat until I saw the food that was coming out of the kitchen, my god was it a good choice, I had the two way chicken burger and halloumi fries, with chili jam, the burger was absolutely packed with flavor, it came with bacon, pulled chicken and a rather large buttermilk chicken slab !. They have an excellent range of children's meals on offer too. I would highly recommend making the trip.
Was very pleasantly surprised a great hidden gem. Vast menu pizza was great, although a better non tomato base option such as pesto or cheese sauce would be preferable to garlic butter. We will be back.
We booked as a family of 7 plus baby and it was absolutely brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble, even when the meal time was delayed due to late arrivals. We brought our own birthday cake and they even gave us an indoor sparkler for the top.The meals were gorgeous and we will definitely be going back. We were not rushed to leave after and it was lovely to sit and relax after such a lovely meal and enjoy a few drinks. Thanks to all the staff for making my hubbys birthday so relaxed and enjoyable.
