Guddi & Gikki

Well what can I say? There probably aren't enough superlatives to describe how delectable a food experience we had. Like many people I had been meaning to eat here for a while but last night all the stars aligned and we were able to get a table. The waitress that greeted us was concerned that the kitchen wouldn't be able to cope as they were a staff member down and the kitchen was busy with other tables. (We arrived at 21:30 on a busy Thursday without an advanced booking) Having checked with the kitchen we shown to our table and warned that there may be a 30 minutes delay on food. We ordered drinks and munched on bombay mix whilst looking at the menu. Nice not to have to choose from an enormous range. I had prawns as a starter and my partner had cod. We ordered our mains too. Choice of chicken, lamb or vegetables thali with various side dishes. I chose chicken partner chose lamb.......when the starter arrived (in less than 30mins) we realised we were in for something special. Beautiful presentation and the flavour did not disappoint. Both cooked to perfection and packed with flavours that didn't mask the fish. Then came the mains. Fabulous presentation of separate dishes containing our chosen dish and bombay aloo, raita, dhal and rice. There was a beautiful cone poppadom on the plate and we shared a naan too. It looked amazing and tasted incredible. The Dahl was so good I could have eaten a bowl of that alone. Super tasty and lovely spicy heat that didn't overpower. Our individual dishes were instantly share with each other as were too good not to share. The poppadom was super crispy with no grease and more flavour than is natural for a simple pop.......a revelation!!! Lamb was melt in the mouth and the chicken had a proper chicken flavour. We pretty much licked the bowls clean. We just had enough room for khulfi. 4 choices....coconut, pistachio, rose, and Saffron and cardamom. We had 2 each and were again dazzled by all. The pistachio and coconut were really lovely and the rose and saff+card a really unusual delight, especially the rose. The whole experience was magical and we chatted to the chef (who was in the restaurant talking to all the punters as well as cooking!) about how much we enjoyed the meal. Please please please visit this restaurant. It is worth every penny and we look forward to going again and telling everyone we know to do the same.

Not good value. Ordered starters and a main. Dishes did come presented very well, and the service was friendly but intermittent. I would go again as it is one of the better options in Taunton for Indian food. I didn't feel like I was having takeaway quality food at a restaurant - as I have felt at other Indian Restaurants in Taunton. The dishes were not particularly spicy, so if you like spice - make sure to mention it!

Best curry restaurant I've found by a long way, not encountered anywhere else that makes such delicious curries as Guddi and Gikki and they're always consistently fantastic. Extremely filling portion sizes too and so full of flavour! The staff are great and super friendly too

We enjoyed everything here! Amazing food, lovely staff and perfect atmosphere! 100% recommended! We’ve tried g and g platter and it was a good start for 2 people. Then we had chicken and lamb mains and everything was amazing. It came with 3 sides and we also ordered garlic naan (the best naan we’ve tried so far). We end up so full! Thank you!

I came here during the summer of 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed my dinner here. The food is distinctive, and delicious. Even a few years on, I still remember it vividly. I am pleased to see from the other reviews that Guddi and Gikki is still going strong.

Lovely family-run place. Food was really tasty and the service genuinely friendly. Have the Fig and Coriander Naan in you're stopping by!
