Stopped in for an impromptu Sunday lunch on the way home from Newcastle. Very impressed... welcoming friendly service and excellent food. Yorkies were enormous and servings were very generous. Went to pay the bill and rolled 7 on the dice meaning pudding was free!! Amazing value. Well worth a visit.

Walked here with my dog from Helmsley along the Cleveland Way, dropping down off the ridge walking into the scenic woods and around Gormire Lake and then on paths to this hamlet. Great location especially if you’re doing the Cleveland Way but can only leave Helmsley near midday. Friendly and hard working staff, accommodation clean and comfortable and shower piping hot with good pressure. Good ales and food with generous portions and excellent service. Definitely recommend you choose items off the Special Board. Banana Bread Pudding was a real yummy treat! Only problem is they don’t include breakfast or open for breakfast and without transport you’re a bit stranded. We walked along Sutton Beck to the Old Barn Coffee Shop by York House Holiday Park - a 20 minute jaunt. Worth considering. Would stay again.

Friendly welcome and a very nice cottage-y vibe. The view from the website is exactly what I saw in the morning. Good value, only sorry that other commitments meant no time to sample the drink and grub in the pub.

My family and I stayed overnight here on our way up to Edinburgh and also on the return journey home. A beautiful old Inn. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. A good selection of beers and the food is fantastic. Highly recommended.

We loved this place. Friendly, welcoming staff, lovely old building, great food, good drinks and (bonus for our 10 year boy) a pool table room at the back of the pub. The atmosphere in here is wonderful, so relaxing and just what a country pub should be. We will definitely add this to our visit list when next in the area. As a tip, I had the Yorkshire Mix for lunch: it's like a ploughman's but more, it was great.

Excellent veggie dinners in a beautiful, rural setting. Games room with pool and darts. Only a few large tables, so booking is probably wise. Better beer would be welcome.

Brilliant. We had just bought a table at the Beaverman across the road so the Inn was ideal for lunch. Good tasty generous portions. Nicely cooked. Nice friendly service from kitchen and bar. Noticed couple of the tables were Beaver. You should take them back for some TLC. They are worth restoring!

Beautiful old pub, really well decorated and comfortable. The young lady behind the bar was friendly and very helpful, full of smiles. Beer is well kept, but the food is the real selling point. All the meals were wonderfully presented, made with care and tasted amazing. Will be back in on Friday.

Fantastic place. The views of Sutton Bank are spectacular. The pub, traditional and family run. The food is superb so I highly recommend this place. The low is the WiFi which is only available in the main building which is contrary to the website. Our cottage on this visit was nearest to the pub and barely a signal.
