Tried Eric's for the first time tonight. Had heard about them from others and liked the look of the menu.
Ordered the chilli cod bits and the chicken fillets. Loved the little waiting area for takeaway orders. Was ready in under 10 mins.
Both items were really nice. The breading on the chicken was just right in terms of flavour and density, loved the black pepper in it. The cod bites / strips were equally well coated and nicely cooked. Never had black garlic anything before; whilst the mayo was nice (possibly made with help seed oil or could just be the taste of the black garlic), it perhaps wasn't my cup of tea but it wasn't bad by any means.
Would happily visit again to try some of the other bits. Nice to go somewhere with a bit of a twist on the classics.

UPDATED April 2024 Prices have increased here are new photos of the take away menu and the Eat in menu. REINTRODUCED the senior citizens offer of a small fish and chips for £6:50 takeaway or £7 eat in between 12 - 4pm - excellent. They are lovely fish and chips and gluten-free served all the time, and cooked in a separate area so all safe and delicious!
Staff are friendly and helpful. Good clean toilets and big shared carpark with other businesses on the site that can get very busy at times.
One of the photos is of the large fish and half portion of chips. We share the chips as plenty for two in one portion.

This is a fantastic, award winning, fish and chip restaurant. I'm not local but I pop by when I'm in the area. Their food is about the tastiest fish and chips I've had and I have been to possibly the best there is in Whitby but this is up there with the best.
You can eat in or take out and you can order ahead ready for your collection via their app which works very well and I believe is cheaper than ordering on site. There is an outdoor eating area and play area for children.
The restaurant was spotlessly clean and the staff were very efficient and friendly.
If you are in the area then this is a must try restaurant. I'm sure you'll be as impressed as I am.

Great place to eat, with an excellent range of locally sourced products. Delicious fish. Loved the Black Garlic Mayo so much we bought a jar to take home. We had an superb lunch in mid-January 2023.
However, on our most recent visit to the area, mid-January 2024, there were mixed messages on open times. Google and voice message said different things, and when we visited it was firmly closed — at lunchtime — with a skip outside, suggesting site work. Very disappointed.

Very nice fish and chips. Freshly made to order. Batter was light and crunchy and chips were not soggy. Packaged nicely in cardboard boxes. Homemade tartar was very nice. Prices not too expensive. We will definitely return.

Cycling past on a recent holiday we by chance called in.
Ordered cod chips and curry sauce
The fish had crispy batter and the fish inside was cooked perfectly.
The curry sauce was fine and different in a good way it was a ordering system like a fast food restaurant, but you do have the option of sitting inside all the staff I encountered were friendly and attentive.

Excellent fish and chips. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The stools are a little uncomfortable after a while. However, the place was clean and tidy. Eat in and takeaway are available. I had the fried jam sandwich for dessert which is like a donut. I wouldn't it again.
Overall a good price.

We visited Eric’s for fish and chips after the restaurant was recommended to us. The place is situated near an orchard and the area has several other shops (a garden emporium and antiques/ gifts, etc), which makes it a pleasant afternoon out.
We were really pleased with the meal and enjoyed it very much. It is also reasonably priced - especially considering current inflation prices. Staff were really friendly and all worked with a welcoming smile.
However, it was a little chilly inside (we visited in February), but maybe it warms up later into the evening (we visited at 5pm).
